Egg retrieval tomorrow! Nervous

Anyone care to share reassuring experiences of egg retrieval? Tell me I’m going to be fine and will be happily at a bonfire party tomorrow night?

The thing I’m most nervous about tbh is the number of eggs that they’ll be able to collect. The amount and size of follicles, from the feedback at all scans, hasn’t sounded optimum at all and I’m honestly really quite disappointed at a time when I thought I’d be really happy. Only two or three were at the 20mm mark on Wednesday. I know I shouldn’t be disappointed, but I can’t help feeling it.

I was super anxious about my egg collections but honestly it was fine. I had a little bit of bleeding and mild pain afterwards but nothing a paracetamol didn't fix and I was back to normal by the next morning.

In terms of numbers of eggs I think its normal to worry about that...you've already gone through so much both physically and emotionally to get to this point. My monitoring scans weren't a predictor on how many eggs we'd get......I did 4 retrievals......on one cycle they predicted 8 and we got none, in the next cycle they predicted 3 (but they saw more immature eggs) and we got 9 mature and fertilised. Seemed to be a certain amount of luck involved!

Good luck tomorrow

You’ve done 4?! Oh my, JOMS you’ve been on quite the mission! Interesting to hear how the predictions and the results were quite different. I’ll try to keep optimistic :) were they able to tell you how many were mature straight away?
Thank you for the reassurance re the pain. I’ve decided to at least put a Saturday morning lie-in in the diary.

Paracetamol and some comfort food for after.
I had slight pain and needed a nap after but back to normal the next day!

Good luck for tomorrow, keep us updated

Definitely stay optimistic, I think positivity is key throughout the process and as annoying as it is (because it's a really tough process), try to relax as much as possible.

In terms of eggs they told me how many they'd got shortly after retrieval (maybe 10 minutes). They don't grade the eggs or anything at that stage though but the embryologist gave me her 'best guess' as to how many were mature, and in my case she was spot on every time. Not sure if that was luck or if it was just her being very experienced. I always felt a huge wave of relief knowing how many they'd collected and then 24hours was hit with excitement and hope when they rang to tell me how many fertilised.

Good luck, take care of yourself!

Thank you ☺️ I’ll pop back on tomorrow afternoon to update

Good luck. I had four eggs. Successful pregnancy

Its quick. Afterwards i wanted to lay in bed and doze but i didnt really have to

Felt totally normal the next day

MarlowMafia · 04/11/2021 22:45

Also had 4 cycles. Because of the sedation you won’t feel anything or really remember it. The nap I had after the first time (still under the influence of the medication) was absolutely amazing, I often reminisce about it (I have children now), so definitely clear the afternoon if you can. You should be fine by the evening though.
We felt quite sentimental about the eggs being away from us the first time round, so expect to maybe be a bit thoughtful.

ivfbabymomma1 · 05/11/2021 07:01

Good luck!
I felt mild pain afterwards and spent the day on the sofa!
Look after yourself
I ended up with 9 embryos and 1 successfully pregnancy you've got this!!!

tiggerwhocamefortea · 05/11/2021 10:17

I did 5 egg collections- by the end honestly I looked forward to them mainly for the sedation as it's a lovely deep sleep

In terms of follicles anything over 14mm on the day of trigger yielded a mature egg for me

Good luck today!! X

Just in recovery with tea and biscuits. Wow, the procedure was a breeze! I feel daft now for nerves. Last thing I remember telling anaesthetist was “that’s not very comfortable” (it was just mildly sensitive, like a scan) and then they were taking my legs down and wheeling me out. Phewph.

I just found out… EIGHTEEN! EIGHTEEN! I don’t know if that number are all mature yet, but I’d been so worried from the scans that it was a lower number.

For context, these aren’t for me. I’m a first time altruistic donor and I’ve been matched to TWO recipients. I’ve had the weight of the world on my shoulders, been really worrying that there won’t be enough for two recipients and someone will be let down, but with 9 each… I think 9 is a really good chance isn’t it? @donimo I don’t know if you’re still around on these threads, but I wanted to let you know Smile

18 is amazing!! Well done.

And a huge well done and thank you for being a donor.
You'll make people's dreams come true 🤍

18 is a great number! Good luck for the next 5 days

I had twins after 5 rounds so don't feel disheartened or put too much pressure on yourself this first time x

wombatspoopcubes · 05/11/2021 13:35

Thank you for being a donor.

Gosh I wish that they did egg retrieval under GA where I live. It's very, very painful even with a shot of pethidine.

MarlowMafia · 05/11/2021 17:29

18 is great, and 4 rounds for 2 kids was fine. Friends of ours had 18 rounds for their first.
How great that you are donating!

JustOneMoreStep · 05/11/2021 20:11

18? Wow that's amazing. Thank you for being a donor, it's an amazing gift and your recipients will be forever grateful. Look after yourself. You've been amazing.
