TTC at 40

Hi

Me and my partner are aiming to start TTC early next year. I'll have just turned 40 (partner will be 39) and this is my first time TTC as I hadn't met the right person before now. He doesn't have children either.

We are both aware that my age means this won't be easy and may not happen at all. I do have some eggs frozen from a few years back but there's only 6 and the chances of any of these successfully being fertilised and surviving etc are low so I'm not really taking those into account. So we're going to try naturally for a few months before attempting anything with the frozen eggs.

Is there anything anyone would recommend for a 40 year old to help with getting prepared? I stopped smoking last year. I rarely drink alcohol - maybe a glass of wine a month. Trying to eat healthy. I'm not overweight. Is there anything else I can do that I might have missed?

Oh and we're both going to get a fertility MOT first to see if there's any major issues that we don't know about. Last time I had a fertility check I was 38 and things were "satisfactory" for my age. I'm aware things may well have declined a lot since then hence getting another one done.

Thanks!

Hi @ConTime have you read It Starts with An Egg? It gives a lot of information on ways to improve egg quality, which is the biggest hurdle to TTC at 40. It recommends certain supplements and diet changes; e.g. taking ubiquinol each day, which studies have shown can improve egg quality in 90 days.

My dh and I both took his and hers conception vitamins for a few months ahead of trying when I was 38. I'd read positive reviews and I did get pregnant first try and the pregnant was successful. Maybe look into what supplements you could both take? I think it can generally take a few months for supplements to take full effect so something that's maybe worth starting now? Good luck!
