Raised progesterone levels

Hi

Me & DH have been struggling to conceive, every month is a disappointment and yesterday after thinking we'd done it this month AF turned up Sad

Anyway we've started the process of fertility appointments with the first being blood tests, all came back fine but one (progesterone levels) wouldn't be back till today.

The doctors surgery messaged asking me to call and the receptionist said my GP wanted to speak to me regarding the last blood test but not to worry and that it was just a little raised. Unfortunately I can't get a telephone appointment until the second week of November Confused

I know it's my progesterone that's raised, there's nothing else it could be.

My question is, if your progesterone levels are raised does this hinder conception? I can't find much online.

Thank you Smile

At what point in your cycle did you have your progesterone levels checked? Was it after ovulation? I've heard of them being too low but never too high I don't think. Is it maybe worth double checking with the receptionist and asking what the level is (if you feel comfortable). That way you can do some research into it yourself, check what the 'normal' levels are for where you were in your cycle (pre/post ov) and take it from there? Sometimes receptionists can get things wrong, I'm generalising of course but wouldn't hurt to double check x

Ps, that's a crazy wait time for a GP appointment, mad!

The receptionist wouldn't tell me, just that there was one that was a little high ( I don't think she knew I'd phoned Monday to get results so I would know it's the progesterone blood test) all she could tell me was 'it's nothing to worry about, the gp just wants to speak to you'. Then told me I'd have to wait until the 12th for a PHONE CALL appointment ConfusedConfused typically I'm left wondering now!!

It was supposed to be a 7 days before next expected period blood test, so I finished predicted ovulation on the 17th & had them on the 22nd... expecting my period this Friday.. unfortunately it turned up yesterday Sad

@ffiffi123 that's odd, you'd except the number to be raised after ovulation, that's the whole point of doing the bloods to see if you've ov'd or not, so I wouldn't see what the issue would be with it being raised! Why do they bother saying anything at all, if they aren't allowed to go into more detail. It should be so you need an appointment at all, and that's it. Ridiculously bad service! Sorry OP, wish you could find out sooner!

My memory is a bit foggy, but having been through ivf. High progesterone could indicate PCOS but then again I don't know how far out of the range would warrant a possible Pcos diagnosis.

The concern is more if you have low progesterone as that can show that you aren't ovulating.

Let the GP know about your earlier than expected period as that could explain the rise. They may want to repeat just to double check, so have your dates ready 😊

Good luck!!

This would be our second DC.. hoping it's not anything that can be helped Sad our first took around 7 months but this just seems to be taking longer. Even with ovulation tests and everything else Confused
