Aspirin in the two week wait after FET

Hi
I'm currently day 9 of the 2WW following an FET. My clinic has advised me to take 75mg of aspirin every single day. I'm struggling to see the logic behind this, however. I've been told it is to improve circulation and improve implantation so I've taken it every day thus far but by now I'm pretty sure implantation either would or would not have taken place. What concerns me is taking it on an ongoing basis as I have researched this topic online and there does not appear to be any scientific consensus that women should take aspirin in the first trimester of pregnancy. In fact, some articles even suggest it could be harmful. There is no consistent information and all my clinic keeps saying is that "it will help with implantation" - that is the nurses, my consultant never even mentioned she was going to put me on aspirin. Is anyone else taking aspirin following an FET and, if so, what reason has your clinic given for this? Thanks.

Hi, no experience with FET I'm afraid but after 2 recent MCs my doctor has prescribed Heparin injects (anticoagulant so had the same function as asprine). He explained that it prevents small blood clots which might inhibit implantation and embryo development. I've been told to start taking it at day 14, stop taking if my period comes, but to continue taking it if I get a BFP until the pregnancy is confirmed as viable. Not sure if this is helpful, but I think that's the logic behind anticoagulants during the first trimester.

Interesting. It seems to be recommended for people who have suffered from recurrent miscarriages but I've never been pregnant so I do wonder if my clinic is rolling it out as blanket advice.

@Annalcox
I know people who have had ifv and have been told to take it. On a basis it would do any harm if not needed. But could stop blood clots if they where to occur. So rather than finding out before it's to late they try to prevent it before it happens if that makes sense goodluck on testing day. 💚

@AnnaLCox I think it's one of those things that might help prevent a problem that may or may not occur, but given that it won't do any harm then it's better safe than sorry. I wish I'd known about it before my MCs to be honest. It might not have prevented it from happening, but not knowing is worse.

My midwife panicked at my 16w check because I hadn’t been told to take aspirin (ivf pregnancy). After much staring at protocols the entire team on shift concluded it was fine- aspirin is only recommended if over 40( I’ve got a few months to go) if ivf pregnancy with a donor egg, in case of first pregnancy or a couple of other things. It seems to be a new thing since my last pregnancy in 2018 (also ivf, daughter is 3.5 now).
They should be able to point you to a reason for taking it. Maybe ask consultant to confirm if you aren’t sure?

I have recurrent miscarriages and my specialist has had me on low dose aspirin for a year. We can't conceive naturally now so I did a fresh cycle in June that ended in a chemical pregnancy. I've just done a FET and am still on aspirin plus clexane.

The doctors I've spoken to have said it's such a low dose that it won't harm but it could help.
