Fertility window is so close to my period!?

I’m really lucky to have a 3 year old already but I am desperate for a second. We’ve been trying for almost a year. However, this time around my fertile window is right at the end of my cycle so I have “peak fertility” then the next day or the following day, I start my period. I’m really concerned that this will mean I just can’t get pregnant?

Forgive me for asking but are you sure? Usually a luteal phase (the number of days between peak fertility and the start of a period) is around 10-14 days.

Your LH can go up a bit right before your period. Is it possible you’re missing your ovulation surge, and just happening to catch an increase connected to your period?

Luckytattie · 17/10/2021 23:11

I agree the surge can be up before the period day 1 but you will also have a surge later on

Do you monitor mucus? I think that's the best indicator personally. As soon as you see egg white mucus log that in your app. Then have sex! And then when you start seeing a pattern try and have sex a day or two before the mucus is due.

Or just have sex every other day :)

SylvanasWindrunner · 17/10/2021 23:41

That is very unlikely. Are you just relying on OPKs? I would go on mucus and maybe even start temping. Are your periods regular? You ovulate roughly 12-14 days before your period, so if your period is regular, you can work backwards to work out when you will be fertile.

If you are really ovulating a day or two before your period then you need to see a doctor as there is no way you will get pregnant, but it's very unlikely you are - you are probably just having a positive LH surge then, which isn't uncommon.

I agree with the other posters that it's very rare - I would do OPKs from day 1 of your next cycle and take them every day until you next get a period so see what they look like - it's possible you are missing your actual peak and what you are seeing is a natural rise in LH before a period

Do you know it's possible to get more than one peak? I suspect you're missing the earlier one. Is there a reason you can't have sex three times a week for three weeks a month?

I used to ovulate on day 9/10. It's usually someone around day 12-18 I believe.

Hi everyone, thanks for taking the time to replySmile . I could be missing it as I am relying on OPKs. However I have done a test every day this cycle and has only shown a surge this time. Will do it again next cycle but also thinking I might book with a consultant to double check. My partner has only given this a year and we are now in the 9th month so the “panic” is slightly setting in (as I’m sure you lovely ladies can appreciate).

Hi OP. This sounds very unlikely. How many days are your cycles and on what day do you currently think you ovulate? Something is going wrong if you are starting AF the day after ovulation. It may be worth tracking BBT also as it may be that you are not ovulating abc what you are picking up on OPKs is just a pre AF surge.

Borgonzola · 18/10/2021 18:16

I'm following this with interest as last month I ovulated on day 8 but this month have had no positive OPKs (or ewcm) and I'm currently on day 19! I've been reading up on anovulation (cycle with no ovulation). Is it every month for you or have you only just started?
