I'll give you brief run down.. 19 months ttc #2, We've got an almost 3 year old who took 3 months to concieve.
My Dr has been completly useless untill now, he fobbed me off at 9,12 and 15 months and has told me to go back at 2 years if nothing happened he did do my 21 day bloods twice once the level was 2 a couple of months later it was 30, neither of these results were discussed with me so i dont really yknow what they mean apart from what Mr Google has told me. I've not had any other tests atall.

I have premenstral spotting which i've had since coming off the mini pill when we started ttc, i've had a hysteroscopy to investigate with nothing found so i was just told to go away pretty much and that it wasnt that causing the problem with ttc.. i think it has everything to do with it but i dont knwo since they never bothered checking my hormones.

Anyway, i have an appointment with a female Dr on Tuesday morning and i am not going to be fobbed off again. I know there are sme tests i should have, thyroid ( although i'm not sure why ) and a day 3 blood tests and further 21 day bloods.. is there anything else they should be checking ?

Thanks and Happy Christmas

they should definitely check your thyroid as this controls hormones which can have an effect on ttc.
You should also ask them to check for PCOS (Polycystic Ovaries) especially if you have irregular/very long cycles.

I've got an appointment on Thurs. I'm hoping my GP isnt as useless as yours
I hope your female docter can be a bit more helpful.

You want them to test

  • FSH, LH and estradiol on day 3 of your cycle (can be done between days 2 & 5)
  • prolactin
  • thyroid screen (TSH, T3 & T4, preferably thyroid antibodies as well)
  • progesterone at 7 days after ovulation (you'll need to use OPKs to detect the LH surge, a standard 21 day progesterone test is useless unless you ovulate on day 14)
  • referral for a mid cycle scan to look at your uterine lining & ovaries.

HTHs GPs are usually crap with fertility issues - I'd be pushing for a referral.
