have always been very regular to the day then earlier this year just had a month where I completly missed af, very strange the next one came on the dot and normal never happened to me before or since.

Well I've previously been nearly a year without any period at all if that helps.

Are your AF's always this irregular?. I ask this as if they are it is a good reason to seek medical advice sooner rather than later. Such problems are often caused by hormonal imbalances (in this regard a condition called polycystic ovaries is a common culprit) or thyroid problems.

Either way it needs further investigation. If your periods are this irregular it is highly likely you are not ovulaitng regularly, if at all.

I'll join you fruitloop. Can't beat cd71 (or is it 72 today?) but have had cycles longer than 41days since starting TTC.

Currently on CD41 (again) and have no idea when AF will show up.

Have been charting temps and I have had 18 days of high temperatures now, but BFN yesterday, can't see how it will turn into a BFP overnight.

Am waiting to see a gynaecologist in a couple of weeks, as doc couldn't tell me anything. Am also waiting on progesterone test results I had taken at CD29 (supposedly a week after my temps rose) to see if i definitely ovulated when I thought I did.

It's just not knowing that I find frustrating. If I knew AF wouldn't turn up till, say CD50, then I could get on with my life till then.

AttilaTheMeerkat · 07/12/2007 11:47

Hi digitalgirl,

Temp charting is no of no benefit whatsoever if cycles are irregular. You can also have a rise in temp in the second half of your cycle when an egg has not been shed so charting anyway is not inffalible at the best of times.

Have you had a LH/FSH blood test done?. Would unfortunately think that with cycles of this length the progesterone result will be very low. Am glad though to read you are seeing a gynae in a couple of weeks time, you need a diagnosis first and foremost.

fruitloop, am still BF DS who is 9mo now, he only has a couple of feeds at night, but still no AF since before getting pregnant! - sorry, I know not quite the same, but I was never very regular before, so it's hampering my chances of TTC totally.

Think DS just not ready to share me with another yet .

digitalgirl · 07/12/2007 11:59

Oh Attila, you've confirmed my fears. That I've been wasting my time charting because I'm not actually ovulating.

I'm so upset about this, because I was hoping my doc would refer me for day3 tests, but she didn't. Hopefully the gynae will.

I really don't know how I'll cope with trying for years and years.

thank you anniemac - you're right. i am lucky enough to get a consultation after only a few months, so if there is a problem i'll know well in advance of the usual year.

does it make any difference that the gynae i'm seeing isn't part of a fertility clinic? they're just in the gynaecology dept of a local hospital.

Digitalgirl

Would like to reassure you also on one point - I have PCOS (and endo) as well and am a parent.
It is certainly not an absolute barrier to conception but it can take longer.

let us know how you get on with the gynae in a couple of weeks time.

www.verity-pcos.org.uk is the website of Verity which is well worth reading for any woman with PCOS.

MrsRigby · 07/12/2007 13:58

Ha, I beat you all - I've got PCOS and have had cd98 before now.

Apparently not ovulating and on metformin 500mg tds.

fruitloop79 · 07/12/2007 13:59

Day 72 now!

I've managed to get an appointment with GP for next Thursday. Is there anything I should be asking/demanding?

I'm gonna ask him for scan for PCOS plus blood test for thyroid again. Although I'm sure thyroid functioning fine as I had blood test recently and havnt been called back. I cant wait to find out what's going on. Can't imagine I'll be seen before new year though. My own fault for leaving it so long i suppose

digitalgirl How long are you having to wait for consultation since seeing GP?

OP posts:
fruitloop79 · 07/12/2007 14:01

98! OMG!!!
How's the medication going? How long have you been TTC? When did you find out?

OP posts:
roobarbandcustard · 07/12/2007 14:39

Hiya fruitloop. I have been up to CD 18 MONTHS (whatever that is in days!!!!)
I have been seen by the fertility consultant who refuses to treat me until I lose some weight as apparently that is what my problem is! So, 12 months later I am still here, waiting and wondering if it will ever happen (I am fully aware that it IS all my fault, however this doesn't make things any easier ).

Hope you get that BFP very soon

fruitloop79 · 07/12/2007 14:52

oh roobarb, you poor thing
Life's such a bitch sometimes. It's so difficult to get into that 'losing weight' mode. especially at this time of year.
the way I think is I'm gonna put it on when im PG so what's the point in dieting now? However I did conceive DS when I was going through a very strict GI diet. I'm sure all that healthy eating must have helped.
Just think of the little bundle of joy at the end of it. It doesnt have to be a boring diet, just healthy eating (I'm sure you dont need me to tell you )
I did Slimming world with a friend early this year and she lost loads of weight. I only had a few pounds to shift so took me much longer. It was a bit confusing to begin with but once you get the hang of it it's quite easy and can pretty much eat what you like. Better than having to add up points like at weight watchers.
Are you TTC number 1?

OP posts:
roobarbandcustard · 07/12/2007 18:40

Yes,TTC number one. I am following WW and have been doing for as long as I can remember now!!!!. Unfortunately, I have a VERY bad habit of not counting the points of things that nobody else sees me eat!!! HE, HE, HE!! No seriously, I have managed to lose about 1 and a half stone and we have got a dog now, which really helps with the exercise as I walk her for an hour twice a day, so I am moving in the right direction, just not fast enough!! .

And to top it all, everyone else in the whole wide world seems to be pregnant or just had a baby .

How old is your DS? (If you dont mind me asking!)

fruitloop79 · 07/12/2007 20:38

Yeah I know how you feel about everyone being PG or just had a baby.

My DS is nearly two and a half now - time really flies!
We'd love him to have a little baby bro/sis. Only been TTC since Aug (came off pill), I'm well aware it could take a very long time which is why I'm off to GP's on Thurs.

The exercise will really help you. Have you thought about trying a different weight loss program? maybe WW not for you? I find GI really works for me (very boring though!) and like I said Slimming World worked for my friend.
I would also pick on extra points - especially if it's off someone else's plate (doesnt count )

How long have you been TTC? did your fertility consultant tell you how much you have to lose before he treats you?

OP posts:
fruitloop79 · 08/12/2007 08:16

MrsRigby Has metformin made any difference? Does it kick start ovulation? Just wondering as I was up most of last night worried I've got PCOS as I seem to have every single symptom there is!
I'm just looking for hope if I'm not ovulating

OP posts:
digitalgirl · 08/12/2007 12:01

fruitloop I asked my doctor to refer me about 5 weeks ago, I had to go in and 'choose' where I wanted to go. I wish I had looked into local services beforehand as I felt put on the spot and the Doc didn't know which place to recommend. In the end I went for the nearest, but not biggest, hospital.
I was given a password and I had to call up myself to make the appointment.

They gave me an appointment that was 6 weeks away, so now I've got another week to wait. Am fully expecting to be on CD52 when I go. Am also not expecting immediate answers, they'll probably just ask me loads of questions and then book me in for a series of tests.

attila that site looks really interesting. It's very possible I could have PCOS, but I'll wait for the diagnosis before giving up chocolate and cakes

It is reassuring to know women with PCOS can still get pregnant. I just hope I'm one of them
