Day 21 hormone blood test

Hello all,
I was referred for my hormone blood test by the doctor on day 21. She has called me today and all she said was its come back low so I didn’t ovulate this month. I was crying my eyes out on phone to her as now I am even more worried and asked her is there any thing i can do she could quite clearly hear me crying and she just said no i wouldnt worry ok bye. And that was it what a horrible doctor. Ive only recently moved house so this is a new doctor but clearly she isnt helpful at all.
I’m just really concerned now why am i not ovulating or low progesterone. My AF is a day late and i was holding out hope that last week I had felt Implantation pain but now I just feel really upset that this is just never going to happen for me.
Doctor said i cant have any tests done further until my boyfriend has sperm test but he has said he isnt ready for that yet think he feels it unecessary at this stage. Can anyone help or share similar experiences that may make me feel better? X

Sorry you are going through this. I had a similar experience, in that they called to say the day 21 was normal, yet offered no further tests nor referral to a fertility clinic- I'd been TTC 2yrs at that stage.

My DH was equally apprehensive about having a semen analysis. I never realised how concerned he actually was, till it was done!

Do you have regular periods? The day 21 is really only good if you have regular periods and a 27-31 day cycle. If your cycles are shorter or longer, they'd usually advise to have it a different day to day 21. I've heard of some people having serial tests through the month (I think 1 test a week) to track the hormones over that time.

You options would be to see a different GP at the same practice, try to get your partner to have a test or go private. How long have you been TTC?

@Elouera thank you for your response we have been together 3 years and have had unprotected sex the duration of it so i would say 3 years of nothing. I have never been pregnant hence why i am even more concerned that my tubes are not working. The doctor was just horrible i will try another gp at that practice as i just feel like i dont even want to be with this gp anymore.
I used to have regular periods up until march this year then they have been showing up late one cycle was 46 days averages of 32 though. I am 29 years old xx

Was the 46 day cycle a one off? Was it after a covid vaccine? I've read of many women, me included, that have had a delayed period after their vaccine.

My understanding (could well be wrong) that a cycle length + or - 8% is considered normal, so (very roughly) if your normal is 32, then 29 or 35days is still within 'normal'. 46 seems way out though. I assume you checked you weren't pregnant that time?

Have you had any other changes since march, when your cycle changed? More body/facial hair, weight gain or loss, anaemia or a deficiency, thyroid problems, feeling the cold, hair loss?

In hindsight, I wished I'd pushed for a fertility specialist referral sooner. I do know that GP's have certain criteria they need to abide by in terms of testing, and maybe they really cannot do further tests on you, until your partner has a semen analysis. I don't know though, because ended up paying privately as got nowhere with my own GP.

For example, I was 1 week before turning 35, and had TTC 11.5mths, but was told that as I wasn't yet 35, nor TTC 12mths, I didn't qualify for ANY blood tests or checks to be done!!! Apparently the surgery don't get paid for doing such tests 'outside' the recommendations!

Do note that if you try to change GP's, it can be difficult to register elsewhere in many areas. In pre-covid times, the turnaround time to get files to the new GP was a min of 6 week. Now, I'd have no idea, but likely much longer. Best of luck though,, but do start with seeing a different GP at your surgery, and explaining the change in cycles and TTC for 3yrs.

@Elouera the 46 day cycle was a one off got my hopes up if I’m honest so i did multiple tests all to be negative :(. I have heard about the vaccine having this impact on people too i havent had the vaccine but at the time was around a lot of people who had at work i dont know if its true but have u heard about the shedding? Where people who have had the vaccine can have an impact on those who havent when it comes to periods i dont no if thats a conspiracy u dont no what to believe now do u. No other changes from march. Thank you i will try and just hope the next gp can relate a bit more because i feel this one just doesnt care. I cant believe the way i was crying today and she just hung up on me. I have depression on my file as well so imagine if that was a suicidal person its worrying.

Hi @Luna92x sorry you are going through stress. Just another perspective, you are angry at your GP for not being sympathetic or supportive but I am also surprised that your partner sees how upset you are but won't even go for a semen analysis... that would really annoy me. Conceiving a baby is a two person effort and it shouldn't just be you going through the tests and stress if it is something you both really want. I would have a chat to him and explain to him what it means to you/ ask him when he thinks he may be ready before switching GPs.
