Double uterus

I've recently had a scan, and they've told me I've got an oddly shaped uterus. Basically that I have 2. This is a very rare condition ( effects 1 in 2,000 women, bloody typical I'm one of them) we are trying to conceive but I'm scared until I know more about this condition, about how I'm going to over think everything. Has anyone else on here experienced the same thing and gone on to have successful pregnancies?

Any insight will do. And a hand to hold would be great!

I have Bicornuate Uterus, also known as heart shaped uterus, means that I have a dip in the middle causing me to have two sides to my uterus, apparently doesn't affect chances of getting pregnancy but increased the chances of me miscarrying later in pregnancy as baby doesn't have as much room, and I'm more likely to have a breach baby. My last pregnancy was treated as high risk due to this, but I had a healthy baby boy, natural birth and he is as head first!

@Unt0ld thank you so much for the response!! You've really put my mind at ease. I'm best just staying hopeful and taking it a day at a time! Xx

In my experience i had zero difficulties, I had extra scans to monitor growth (I looked at this as a bonus as I saw my baby more). I was monitored that bit more so felt very secure, they mentioned possibly having a c-section but instead I was induced and had a natural births. My son was 6oz6lb so was a little small but perfect and healthy!

He was on my left size and my bump was slightly lopsided haha.

Have they told you what uterus abnormality you have? As each one has its own risks, I've done a lot of research into them over the past 2-3 years since am finding out about mine.

Hiya,

I have a double uterus and cervix and have just had a healthy baby girl…

I found out after my first miscarriage that I had an abnormality, but was told it was a bicornuate. (My miscarriage was early and nothing to do with uterus). I only found out that I actually had a double uterus after a failed induction and a deep examination before a c section.

There’s lots of hope for you, as scary as it feels. Main things for me were that my bump was very one sided. She was a smaller baby, but not actually as small as the doctors thought she was going to be and still a healthy weight. I did struggle with feeling movement, but think that was due to position of placenta.

The only thing I’d say is when it comes to the end of the pregnancy definitely follow your gut and push for what you want birth wise. I felt in my gut that there was something not quite right, that went beyond a bicornuate uterus, but they kept on dismissing it. They tried to induce me for 6 days, but the medical examinations were horrific and I think it turned out that they were only finding the closed cervix where the baby wasn’t. They pushed and pushed with the induction to try to open my cervix, but in hindsight it wasn’t working for me. I had contractions on the empty side instead. They all seemed baffled by this as they did not know what I had at this point! If I had known I might have stopped it sooner and gone to c section.

I hope none of that scares you as it’s not meant to. Just saying we are unique so need them to understand that. It’s great your hospital is aware of your situation and they should put a plan of care in place.

In short, I have beautiful girl now snd hopefully will try again one day. I’ll be glad to be more clued up now.

Good luck!!

I have uterus didelphys (2 wombs 2 cervix) and had a healthy baby but she was 6 weeks premature due to my condition. She basically ran out of room. If you search uterus didelphys on here there is a good long running thread with many women who had successful outcomes.

Youre welcome to DM me if youd like, I tied myself in knots over conceiving etc and remember it well!

I have uterus didelphys , 2 wombs & 2 cervix also. I've never had any issues & was told that if I gave birth naturally the other cervix would just move over! We had 1 miscarriage at 12 weeks but I was 39 so not sure If that was a factor 2. Then fell pregnant shortly after & was scanned every fortnight after 20 weeks, she was 6 weeks early but weighed healthy 4.5lb! I never really gave it a moment's thought as I had an excellent doctor who always assured me it wasn't a problem they just wanted to keep special eye on me,so I think mentally that was a great help :) all the best of luck
