Progesterone - RMC

Hey,

Just after some advice - I am under a couple of clinics for RMC (both private and NHS) for 2 MC and 1 ectopic pregnancy.

I have been diagnosed with a blood clotting disorder so on asprin for my next pregnancy but I want to try absolutely everything to avoid a 4th loss/3rd MC. As such, I want to try progesterone pessaries - it won't do me any harm and ultimately if it does make a difference, surely it is worth trying? I see some clinics prescribe it and others don't.

Neither of my clinics want to give it to me and are just pushing the asprin as this will be my saving grace.

Any ideas/suggestions?

Hello. I'm really sorry about your losses, I'm also in the similar position where I have had 3 miscarriages and I'm trying to do what I can to prevent another.

At my recent appointment, My consultant has said to me that they will only prescribe me progesterone pessaries once I reach 12 weeks pregnant as he said there was not currently enough research to indicate that it will make any difference taking them prior to this to prevent miscarriage and he was following the guidance.

He also advised to take 75mg aspirin once I'm pregnant and then 150mg from 12 weeks onwards. As you have been diagnosed with clotting, I would follow the advice you have been given re aspirin. My consultant also prescribed a higher dose of folic acid (5mg).

Good luck to you xx

I’m really surprised at the progesterone advice. I’ve been at argc and dr Gorgy and progesterone is always given.
I was on 6 cyclogest and alternate pregnancies took either lubion or prontogest too. I think I had progesterone antibodies as my progesterone levels were woeful without support and one pregnancy I took nothing and development was behind and failed.
I read that with immune issues ( I have these) your body can attack progesterone and deplete it.
I took progesterone up to 16 weeks as it can help the cervix too. As far as I know, there are no impacts from taking progesterone ( other than things like bloating etc) and you can’t overdose. So why not take it?
I’m also on clexane , although I don’t have blood issues , they felt it helps the placenta.
I’m on 75mg Asprin since ovulation
For suspected immune issues I have also taken prednisone, intralipids, ivig and lit
I would be looking to other clinics/consultants if I were you.

Also folate is better than folic acid if you have any issue with absorption of folic
