Late period - BFN - vaccine delayed ovulation?

Periods are always like clockwork, I am two days late, BFN on a FRER but still no sign of AF.

I had my moderna jab nearly 3 weeks ago, thinking maybe that could have delayed ovulation?

Anyone had experience of this?

@Rossypossy I had the Pfizer vaccine two weeks ago and I’m a day late now. The first vaccine bought my period on early so was expecting that. BFN on a FRER so it must be the jab that’s caused it. Did you come on in the end?

Hi @DMT1982 thank you for your reply.

Still not sign - 4 days late and BFN on FMU yesterday morning 🤦🏻‍♀️

So annoying being in limbo! I’ve heard of lots of stories of heavier and longer periods, but not delayed so much.

I won’t lie, I was hesitant about getting it anyway, this is making me worry I’ve done the wrong thing 😩

@Rossypossy I was the same about getting it, I didn’t want to due no research around the impact on fertility however I also didn’t fancy the alternative of catching it so took a gamble!

I have all the symptoms of a period, back ache and cramps so expecting it soon it’s just annoying as my periods were finally getting back to normal after two miscarriages late last year and now I’m concerned the vaccine has messed them up again xx

Unfortunately this happens a lot when ttc. Mine were like clockwork, then when ttc I had occasional long gaps between periods, once 60 days!! I think a lot of it is psychological, which makes sense as periods can stop when stressed. As for the jab and fertility, the previous poster is incorrect, there is lots of research around the jab and fertility, please read the guidance on the RCOG.

DMT1982 · 20/08/2021 13:34

@Miliao whilst there is lots of research, no one actually knows for certain what the long term effects of the vaccine may or may not be on fertility.

Miliao · 20/08/2021 13:41

Can you please then explain how you think the vaccine can affect fertility as from the research that has been done and the way the vaccine works, I cannot see how fertility is likely to be affected? Nobody knows for certain anything, that’s how science works, it is impossible to test every permutation. But, if you can explain your reasoning, I would be very interested to hear it, and I do not mean that sarcastically.

Rossypossy · 20/08/2021 14:08

I am concerned though, if the vaccine has no actual ability to effect fertility, then why is it effecting women’s periods?

I would be really interested to hear from other women about whether they have had delayed periods after their vaccine?

I have one DD already, and I have had an ectopic pregnancy and my periods have always been like clockwork. This is the first and only time this has happened to me. I’m not even TTC so I’m not stressed about that!

The only thing that it could be is the vaccine, my big question is why?!

Well even clockwork periods can be affected at any point in time, especially in different times of your life. The jab does can periods, it’s been well documented, but this is not a hormonal change, it’s a inflammatory or haematological change, of which the womb lining is affected. This is not to do with hormones and ovulation, but the lining of the womb.

Miliao · 20/08/2021 14:25

It’s the same way periods can be affected through sickness etc. All evidence so far suggests this only affects one or two cycles (of those that are affected). So it could be down to this, or your period is delayed through any number of other factors and this is a coincidence.

Hi all, I am looking to TTC for baby no2 now and have had both vaccine doses. My periods have been really sporadic ever since I was vaccinated with the first dose back in Feb. I assumed my periods would go back to normal usually every 24/25 days like clockwork.

They are now between 46-53 days later and I have checked and No BFP. how am I suppose to manage to monitor ovulation like I did for sometime before my first pregnancy. ?
