Hello,

I am new to charting and really wanted some advice from those with a bit more experience charting if possible.

In May I had an early MC (likely chemical pregnancy). When I found out I was pregnant I realised I must have ovulated quite late in my cycle, as it took until about a week after I was due to get a positive result (my cycles are usually between 26-29 days).

The following cycle (June/July) I started charting and found that, other than being very zigzaggy, the chart indicated that although I ovulated on day 15, I had a luteal phase of only 10 days - which fitted with my perception of the cycle where I fell pregnant.

At the start of this cycle (July/August) I had my Covid jab, which I feel was the reason I didn't ovulate until day 22. Judging by my chart I feel that there may have then been an implantation dip around day 7, and my temps have then stayed raised since. However, I have taken pregnancy tests yesterday and today (both second morning urine) and both have been negative.

In your opinions, do you feel it might be too soon to get a BFP, or might it still be the Covid jab now prolonging my luteal phase?

Thanks in advance!

*I have posted this months and last months BBTs for reference

I'm by no means an expert, but a couple of thoughts:

I'm very skeptical of "implantation dips" because there is a second oestrogen surge about 7-9DPO, irrespective of pregnancy, which will cause a dip. I have dips in my chart most months and always BFN.

I don't think it's likely that the jab will affect your luteal phase length. I agree with you about it probably causing the late ovulation, but I can think of 3 more likely options: first is that the luteal phase was unusually short in your June cycle as it was the first cycle post-MC. Second, that you'll only see the temperature dip tomorrow when AF starts. Or third, that you're actually pregnant but it's too soon to get a BFP. If in a couple of days AF still hadn't shown and your temps are high I reckon you've got a good chance.

Thank you so much for your response @WantStickyBean ! That's really interesting re not to pay too much attention to apparent implantation dips, as I've just been looking into this and apparently a lot of charts don't show this or a triphasic shift when pregnant.

I'm hoping the luteal phase was unusually short last month, as I've been googling short luteal phases like crazy since and have been panicking that this might be the case with me - but I guess I shouldn't make that assumption from one months chart only.

I'm currently not getting any spotting or cramping at all which I usually get a day or so before AF so hoping this is good news. If the temps stay up I will try a FRER as I used Clearblue digital and have been reading that they are not the most sensitive in detecting pregnancy so early on.

Thanks so much again for your help Smile

@GoonerGal21 yes I think that triphasic charts and implantation dips are really misleading ideas. Last month I had a beautiful triphasic shift at about 9DPO, but AF arrived bang on time. I do like temping to confirm I've ovulated, but for me only the big temperature shift actually means anything and everything else is just noise.

Was your temp still high this morning?

GoonerGal21 · 13/08/2021 10:26

@WantStickyBean I'm finding the whole charting thing to be really confusing and stressful to be honest, so agree that focusing on evidence of ovulation is best.

As the up to date chart shows my temp fell a lot yesterday and then had a small rise this morning. Slight cramps the last couple of days but no sign of AF Confused

@WantStickyBean also did a FRER this morning but was BFN!

@GoonerGal21 sorry that you had a BFN Sad. But hopefully it's a good sign that your luteal phase is a normal length and sets you up well for next cycle. It's interesting that your temperature hasn't dropped below the cover line - you're not out until AF appears, there's still a chance this might be your month.
