12 months unsuccessful TTC

Morning everyone, DH and I have been TTC unsuccessfully for 12 months (except for an early miscarriage in June) and we have decided to speak to the doctor for advice.

I was just hoping someone could give me an idea of what will happen / what tests they will do / what they can do to help? As I have no idea what to expect.

Thanks in advance :)

I have to be honest, when I went to the doctors they were not great at 12 months, because I had fallen pregnant and miscarried which in their eyes showed i could conceive.

Also, it depends on your age. I was only 24 so they told me they wouldn't intervene until it had been 2 years.

Fingers crossed for you though, it's a maddening journey. Fortunately I conceived my lovely daughter 3 months after the miscarriage which made it 15 months in total TTC.

@Candydreamer thank you for your reply and sorry to hear of your mc. I am a bit concerned that the doctor may not help us because we conceived and then miscarried recently so will have to see what they say. I'm 33 so time is not really on my side!

Glad to hear you successfully conceived your daughter after 15 months, that does give me hope Smile

Hi @cherryshine sorry to hear that you are going through this stress too. I had a totally different experience to the PP with my GP and he made me feel very supported and a lot more positive. I was expecting the worst after hearing some stories. If your early miscarriage was a chemical pregnancy I would probably phrase it as such when chatting to them in case that makes a difference- I had one in October. I honestly came of the phone to him feeling very positive and it was like a weight had been lifted, which I know might be a bit unusual but hoping you have a similar experience!

I have been trying for 15 months and the GP has referred me to a fertility specialist.
They will also ask what your cycles are like and how many times you DTD and advise once ever two days all through your cycle rather than trying to pinpoint ovulation.

Before seeing the specialist, they have said that I need to have had cycle day 3 bloods (getting them on Thursday if AF arrives today!) and DH needs to have a sperm analysis. They have said that the first thing they will do is a scan (not sure what type of scan yet but happy to keep you updated as I go through the process!). It has taken a while though since they will not see me before the blood tests and I sadly had to cancel them last month as had covid. I would recommend getting a GP appointment ASAP to get the wheels in motion.

@LondonladyTTC good morning, thank you so much for your message, it has instantly made me feel a lot better to know what the initial steps are.

Good idea about the wording of the miscarriage, just in case it makes a difference.

Best of luck with your bloods tomorrow if you have them done. And I would love to be kept up to date with what's happening with your scans etc as I'd imagine I'll be going through all the same things soon (hopefully, if my doctor is as helpful as yours!).

I was going to phone the doctor this morning but have put it off again. But I will definitely phone when the afternoon appointment line opens at 1 so I can get the ball rolling Smile
