I was wondering when you knew that you were ready to be a mum?
For me it was a precise time when i kind of turned a corner,(iykwim) was this true for you or did it just naturally happen? Have you always known without a doubt that you would become a mum or did it come at a later stage in your life for you?

I always knew I would have children one day, bean was totally unplanned though so it's happened a bit sooner than I was expecting. But I know people who never thought they would want children until it actually happened and are now the most amazing mums.

When I was younger and before I met dh was absolutely adamant I didn't want kids (never felt I was patient enough!), although I love other people's! As I got older I became aware of my friends pairing off and having babies and thought there must be something in it, so re-evaluated the 'never' to 'if I met the right person' and fully expecting it not to happen! Then lo and behold I did meet the right person and he really wanted kids, and the rest is dd at 2.8 and trying for another! As an 'older' Mum I was worred about being too selfish to share myself etc. but having dd has somehow opened a 'more love' door somewhere in me (God that sounds corny but I don't know how else to describe it). Still occasionally wonder if I was right to change my mind, by only when I'm really tired and fed up and then not for long!!

I always knew I wanted kids, and it was something my husband and I talked about before we got married.

We didn't want to have kids right away - wanted to enjoy being young and child-free, but we also couldn't have afforded it for the first few years. When we got married we talked about having kids in about 5 years. It so happens we had our daughter 5 years and 2 months after we got married.

It was really a financial decision when we decided the time was right. We were both settled in pretty good careers after I hadn't been able to work because of not having a green card and he had gone back to school to retrain in a different career. We could afford it and we were both ready to be parents. We were incredibly lucky that we conceived the first try both times, so the timing was perfect really.

I echo Nikkichik - I never wanted kids and was pretty damn sure I would never have them. Have been with DP for 21 years in total - first dating and eventually living together (I'm so old!!). He always thought we would have them, but not me.
Then after living together 15 years, life just seemed to be a bit empty...yes, we had good holidays and eachother, but there just seemed to be something missing.

2 DDs later and we have all the challenge we could ever need

to be honest you never know when youre ready. This time last year i was thinking "shall i start making babies or not?", "shall i start making babies or not?" and it was going round and round in my head and then i decided that i want to be either be pregnant or had the baby by the time im 30. i turned 30 last month and ive got a 8 weeks old baba and it was the best decision i ever made as i felt right having this baba.

I was the same. As a teen and in my early 20s I was adamant I would never have children. I too thought I was too selfish and had nothing to give. Around the age of 26 I began to think 'maybe' I was so excited about my SILs pregnancy and the birth of my nephew.

Babysitting my nephew for a 24 hour period really opened my eyes. I coped well, found a patience I never knew I had, and fell so utterly in love with him.

I still said I'd only have children with the right man. I didn't want to have to talk someone into having children. Luckily, 10 months later, I met my DH and he was just born to be have kids.

I knew I wanted them, eventually and that I wanted to be a young mum, around 24 ish, but since i've been married, DH has been really broody, we had some friends over for a b-b-q who brought their little one (in pink nike tacksuit and trainers) and he decided there and then babies were 'ace' in his words and he wanted one, really really wanted one, I put him off again for about a month or so, then agreed we could start trying assumin it would take however lone. as initially we wer'nt tracking too much or any thing, but over the past 3-4 months, I been really broody myself and know that any child we have will be loved and special (as long as they're girls for DH and boys for me!) lol.
