Can I still ask doctors to do other blood tests, if I can't get my progesterone this month?

Hi.
This is the first time I'm getting tests done. But would I have to wait for next cycle if I can't remake my progesterone blood test appointment (the appointment I have means I'm 9dpo and it's only 4 days before my period). Or can I book the other blood tests (i heard are usually done 2-4 dpo) even if I haven't had my progesterone one done this month please?.

Thanks

Hello - 9DPO should be fine for a progesterone test, anything 7-9dpo should be good to confirm ovulation.

As for the other tests - they're done at CD2-4, not 2-4DPO so no you'd have to wait until next cycle for those anyway.

Thanks. Oops, yeah I don't know why I wrote dpo, I meant CD2-4, lol. People have told me conflicting things about progesterone test so that's why I was thinking I had to cancel, doctors said book 7 days before period, other people saying it has to definitely be done on CD21 and what you are saying CD7-9 🤔

@Kaoru35 the NICE guidelines say 7 days before period (which is why doctors say that) - but this is chancing it based on the assumption of everyone having a 14 day luteal phase. Others say CD21 but that's again on the assumption you not only have a 28 day cycle, but that you also have a 14 day luteal phase. Ultimately the peak progesterone levels are between days 5-9dpo (with the ideal being 7-9dpo), so if your test is any time within that window it's unlikely it will come out with the wrong result.

Basically it's rarely going to be 7DPO exactly for people, they just have rough guidelines to make sure they try and catch you in that peak progesterone phase.

Worst case scenario it comes out as having been a bad day for you to take the test - then they just ask you to come back for a repeat the next cycle, but I don't think you have anything to gain from cancelling your test :)
