Should I book a GP appointment?

Hi, my partner and I decided to start trying to get pregnant this month. I've been on the mini pill for about 7 years so not had a period for a long time.

The 6th July was the first day I didn't take my pill and we ordered ovulation tests online, I started doing them daily after they arrived so about 5 days after I stopped taking the pill. So it's been about 22 days and all ovulation tests have been negative and I've not had a period. Shouldn't I have had a period and ovulated by now?

I'm wondering if I should book a GP appointment - mine is very oversubscribed and it's the only one in a large area with a lot of elderly people, plus with COVID going on, I just feel a bit silly taking up their time with this. What do you think?

No - far too early to see a doctor. It's quite normal for periods to take a while to return after stopped a contraceptive pill. Suggest you join the post pill party thread - lots of lovely ladies there going through similar who can help you

Yes far too early. When I used to work in a fertility clinic (a few years ago now) the nhs clinic wouldn't accept referrals for couples who have been trying less than 2 years.

Keep trying- give your body a chance to get used to not being on the pill Smile

Thanks, I didn't realise that thread was a thing as I'm new to mumsnet!

Far too early, you've literally only just stopped taking your pill. It can take a few months to get back to normal.

Too early, your body is still figuring out what to do without all the exogenous hormones. Give it a chance, things should settle into a pattern soon.

I stopped the mini pill at the start of Jan and it took two months for my first period to show up. My cycles still aren't back to being regular yet, so I would just allow a bit of time for your body to adjust!

Lots of ladies on there that took a while to get back into a normal cycle after the pill. Would you not expect a withdrawal pill first btw? Or is that not a thing for the mini pill.

Juno231 · 29/07/2021 09:58

withdrawal bleed* I mean

salviapages · 29/07/2021 10:01

I have no idea what to expect coming off the pill, that's why I was thinking of booking the appointment to get a better understanding. Thanks for the link to the thread!

It took 6 months from stopping the pill for me to get my period. Once they returned I conceived within two months so it’s not a sign that it will be difficult for you.

@salviapages honestly the GP would just fob you off and tell you to come back when it's been a year.
