Low AMH levels

Hi all,

I have received my results for various tests that I've done privately as GP won't see until we've been trying for a year.

I'm worried about my AMH level as it is 12.8 and I'm 28. Results say this falls under low AMH. Should be 23.6 for my age.

Would this give me a good enough reason to go back to my GP to ask to be referred before the 1 year?

I know this doesn't indicate the quality of the eggs just that I have less than I should have for my age. I'm also worried as this isn't something you can improve on and will only decline with age.

Should I speak to my GP and push for a referral to have a scan to look at egg quality and more tests? Or do I just keep trying every bloody month to only see a BFN each time?

Amh is really an indicator of how well you'll respond to ivf medication. In itself it's not an indicator of fertility or if you can conceive naturally. I've known people with very low amh have successful natural pregnancies. Scans also won't tell you the quality of your eggs sadly.

My amh is 5 and I have conceived naturally 4 times (I have recurrent losses, unrelated to my amh). In my ivf cycle I got 7 eggs and 3 good quality embryos.

You can try your GP for a referral but they will probably tell you to come back at 12 months but try not to worry about your amh levels x

@acupofteamakeseverythingbetter Hi, I hope you are ok. I got my AMH results back today. 16.9 and I’m 35. The consultant said it’s ok but then I can’t help but read.
Thank you for explaining @VenusStarr. Is 16.9 ok? My progesterone levels were 45. Is this good too. Apparently I have to wait 4 months for my follow up of investigations Sad seems so unfair

VenusStarr · 16/07/2021 17:09

Hi @DeeDee20 your progesterone levels are good and confirm you did ovulate. I don't know the ranges for amh and age off the top of my head but your levels are OK. Mine were 5 at 37. But just to reassure you, I have conceived naturally 4 times (but have recurrent losses, nothing to do with my amh levels).

I'm sorry you've got a long wait, have you had any other investigations? I had a hsg and hysteroscopy before we were referred to ivf. Has your partner had a sperm analysis? xx

@VenusStarr hey thank you for help. I have my ultrasound and hsg xray booked in a few weeks. Partner has had SA but I just can’t believe we have to wait until October to talk about this at the follow up. I think I only got my blood results because I sent a pushy email as no one has explained the procedure to us at all. It’s so long. I went to the GP in January, had our first appointment in June and now have to wait for the follow up in October. X

Hello, my AMH was 13.7 at 31 and my consultant said it is absolutely fine but I was worried after Googling and before I met with him. I wouldn't worry too much to be honest. If you can afford it you could maybe get a follicle scan a couple of days before you ovulate to check that you have a heathy number in each ovary - I did which gave more comfort to my consultant.

DeeDee20 · 16/07/2021 18:23

@LondonladyTTC ah thank you. I still have two more investigations to go.
Although the consultant just called my partner and he has borderline low sperm count and has been advised to take impryl.
Has any one heard of this?

acupofteamakeseverythingbetter · 16/07/2021 18:50

Thanks everyone, my day 21 progesterone was 30.5 is that ok? My acupuncturist said it shows I ovulated but should ideally be over 40.

I think if I don't fall pregnant this cycle I'm going to pay for follicle scan to check quality. All seems like a numbers game doesn't it!?

My sister has been through multiple rounds of IVF and has said everything doesn't need to be perfect, it just needs to be enough to work. So that's helped me not to obsess over the numbers and getting everything perfect!

Unfortunately, even if you have atypical results it's a postcode lottery. I have atypical results (and cycles,) and they still will not refer before a year after our loss
