Hiya. Can someone please explain to me how to track your body temperature to show when ovulation is. Thank you

Take your temperature with a 2decimal place thermometer at the same time every morning. It must be before talking, drinking or getting up otherwise that renders it void. Best to keep it under your pillow for this reason. If you get up in the night it will also render the temperature invalid as needs to be on at least 4-6hours of sleep. Low temperatures are before ovulation then once you ovulate you'll see a rise and temperatures will stay high before dropping again to signal your next period or will remain high if pregnant.

Sure, firstly you'll need a basal thermometer and you take your temperature as soon as you wake up each morning from day 1 onwards. Don't even sit up so make sure your thermometer is within reach and you'll need to take your temperature within half an hour of the same time each day.

Prior to ovulation you are looking for temperatures below 36.4, at ovulation you should see a dip (but not everyone does) then the next day a rise. If that rise carries on for three days over 36.4 then you can see that the day before the rise was ovulation day. Your temperature should remain high until the day or two before your period when it will drop. If you are pregnant your temperature will remain high when you would expect your period. I think if it's high for 18 days there's a really good chance you're pregnant but I don't know how this plays out if you have a long cycle 🤔

If you don't see a rise, you didn't ovulate that month and if your temperature drops before your period then you might have a progesterone problem so go and get a 21 day blood test. I'm not an expert on how many days would suggest a progesterone problem so hopefully someone will be along to give us both a hand with that one!

I've been tracking my temperature - thanks for the reminder that I need to be strict with my routine!

A luteal phase (post ovulation before period) should be 11-14 days, 10 is ok, 9 and below can signify an issue with progesterone no would make implantation difficult as this usually happens around 9dpo
