TTC but just been offered a chance to travel for work

Hi

I've just been offered the chance to travel to NY to work in our sister office. Travel would be as soon as possible and I'd fly back the weekend before Christmas. Normally I'd jump at the opportunity, but now I feel all confused. It's a brilliant opportunity but we're TTC#1 and I know that flying in the 1st trimester is inadvisable. The 2WW starts after the weekend and I'm really hoping we've 'caught' this month. I'm hopefully optimistic that we will have one minute, then really pessimistic the next.

I don't want to say No to work, but if I don't go then I'll probably have to work shifts to cover NY hours for the period I would have been in NY for.

I just don't know what to do for the best. Thought I'd put this on MN to see if anyone had any opinions. What would you guys do?

I flew twice a week during my first trimester, I don't think you need to worry about that. I'd go and avail yourself of the Christmas shopping opportunities!

Make sure your work medical insurance will cover you for anything pregnancy-related, though - early days of course but if you are and you do need to see someone you definitely don't want to have to pay.

I found out I was pg with DS when I was in the US, came back, went to Belgrade, then Spain the next week - can't remember after that, but I chucked in a lot of hotel bathrooms. The consultant said at least it kept my mind off things (and this is considering that I had had recurrent miscarriages), and it was no problem.
The only thing you have to consider, is that if you started to bleed, you'd be on your own a long way away from any support. Just depends on how you think you'd cope. Sorry to mention this, but have been there myself.

i think the only reason you're not supposed to fly in the first trimester is because mc's are much more common and airlines don't like to take responsibility for that sort of thing. same reason they don't like to take women who are over 30 weeks pg.

hiya, I went to Morocco with work a few days after my BFP (wasn't thrilled, but it was too late to cancel without getting the gossips started!). Talked to doc and my travel insurance company (Norwich Union) and they both said it was absolutely fine. I m/c later, but nothing to do with the trip. I guess it's what you feel comfortable with, but if you go, what a way to take your mind off the dreaded 2WW! All the best, whether you're here or in NY!

Thanks Guys

So good to hear others have flown during those first few weeks. I guess I shouldn't put everything on hold on the 'what if'. Got a bit of discussing to do with DH before I make a final decision. Will let you all know what I decide to do, and of course keep you posted as to whether it's a BFP or BFN in just over 2 weeks time!
