Can anyone explain to me why I'm sweating at night?

I had my son 10 months ago. Horrible delivery with 2 litre blood loss. We conceived him in the first cycle of trying.

Ever since giving birth up till now I wake up with layers of sweat on my body. This doesn't happen everyday, just on random days throughout my cycle. They aren't proper nightsweats. It's usually a layer of sweat on my neck and between my thighs (imagine the sweat you get on a hot summers day when you wear a dress and you're sitting for a long time and you sweat between your thighs).

My periods also have became very regular again since 4 months postpartum. I have a 28 day cycle, ovulation day 16 and 12 day luteal phase. At the beginning of this year I had an early miscarriage.

Obviously, I was panicking because I thought I was sweating because of premature menopause. I had fertility testing done at a private clinic and was told my AMH was 22.5, which he said was normal /good for my age. I'm 34.My ovaries also looked normal on the scan and I had a good follicle count. He said in his opinion we should have no problems conceiving naturally and should come back if we hadn't conceived by December this year.

This particular clinic didn't do day 3 hormone tests, so I did them myself via thriva.

These were my results:
FSH: 8.36 IU/L =>normal
LH: 4.38 IU/L => normal
Oestradiol: 198 pmol/L => normal
Testosterone : 0.31 nmol/L => normal

SHBG: 131 nmol/L => abnormal

Underneath it said : "Your sex hormone - binding globulin levels are raised. Anorexia, HRT and oral contraceptives (the pill) might cause high SHBG levels. High SHBG can cause symptoms including mood swings, dry skin, trouble sleeping, decreased sex drive, hot flushes and irregular periods."

I'm not anorexic, I'm not on HRT and I don't take the pill.

I also had a thriva test for my thyroid and the results were actually optimal.

Does anyone have any advice/ideas to to explain what is wrong with me?

I have another appointment at a fertility clinic in July and I want to come armed with as much information as possible as this has already cost me too much.

Thanks x

To be honest I think it’s relatively normal. At some points in my cycle I go through a few days of night sweats, especially if it’s a hot night. It all settles back down. Have you tried tracking the symptoms to see if it’s happening at the same points in your cycle each time?

Have you had prolactin checked? Night sweats were one of my symptoms. They stopped once I started treatment.

I still get them a couple of days before AF but that's normal, and have always had that.

My son is nearly 15 months old and I still have my post partum sweats! It's hard to describe because I don't necessarily feel warm at night but will wake up drenched and my pillow and sheet is soaked through. I've put it down to the fact I'm still breastfeeding him so still lots of hormones floating about, and so haven't had any tests done 🤷‍♀️

@2ndTimeRound90

I know breastfeeding can cause night sweats.

Didn't mention it in my original post, but I stopped breastfeeding my son at 3 months though, so it wouldn't make sense why I'm still sweating 10 months postpartum.

@Lalala1985

No, I haven't had my prolactin checked yet. I'm not breastfeeding anymore, stopped breastfeeding 3 months postpartum.

What caused your raised prolactin and what treatment did you get?

My DS is 3.5 and I still sweat at night. Even in winter.

anoif12 · 20/06/2021 20:57

@Saff2015

I hope it's normal. I didn't have those sweats before I fell pregnant and the thriva result says my SHBG level is out of whack, so I'm not sure. There's limited information online on what could cause this.

@YouBoggleMyMind

Did they find a cause for this?

@anoif12

Ah ok, I'm not sure in your case then! I'm hoping that it stops when I stop bf as it is a proper pain having to change in the middle of the night quite often!

RandomMess · 20/06/2021 21:47

I had night sweats for months after I stopped breastfeeding but only with my third and not then with my 4th 🤷🏽‍♀️

Have you had your thyroid levels checked? This was a symptom for me

YouBoggleMyMind · 20/06/2021 21:54

I've never had it looked into. I have PCOS but it's never been an issue until after I had my DS.

Lalala1985 · 21/06/2021 15:02

@anoif12 Mine is caused my a small lump in my pituary, but many things can cause it. Your prolactin is very high if you're breastfeeding as it's actually the hormone that allows that. I could lactate even though id never had a child.

It's worth getting it checked out, it took me 3yrs to get diagnosed as the drs were checking the wrong thing. Once I started tablets for it, my symptoms went away instantly.
