BFP and still testing

I'm probably super weird for this? I got my BFP at 12dpo on 5 different tests, yet I can't help but keep testing 🥺

I think I've read too many stories about chemical pregnancies and I'm just terrified I'll test one day and see no line at all? I'm currently 5w+5, and registered my pregnancy online the day I got my BFP as this is what my GP told me to do. I'm full of anxiety and don't think it'll get any better until I get my first appointment!

Please tell me I'm not the only one doing this? 😩

What exactly do you think they'll do at your 'first appointment'?

They didn't even take a urine sample at mine.

Beanybob · 13/06/2021 11:58

I've tested daily since my BFP last Monday. I basically just want to see the line getting darker, or at least not lighter. There's an argument that it could be causing me more anxiety overall but for now I'm finding it reassuring. I have a 6 week scan in a couple of weeks and will probably keep doing it until then.
I'm at a very high risk of MC due to other health conditions so just want to keep checking the line is there!

Came to say what @Couldhavebeenme2 said, why will the first appointment change anything for you? They don't do much at it at all.

Bundaberg84 · 13/06/2021 12:07

@Mae01 I fully understand you but unfortunately there is nothing you could do to prevent a chemical. I don't know if testing daily increases anxiety or not, but I don't think it helps at all. Maybe for reassurance do a digital test in a couple of days or so?
I had an early scan before 6 weeks. If you feel like you need it for peace of mind, just do it. Even though there won't be much to see, it still helps to talk to a GP or ob/gyn. I wish you a healthy 9 months ahead ❤️

@Couldhavebeenme2 @Garman .. This is my first ever pregnancy. I'm not sure how your guys first appointments went and what they did or didn't do, or who you both went through, but my first appointment will include, bloods, urine dip and a early screening scan Smile No matter how many tests I do I still cant get it in my head that I am actually pregnant, so to be able have it confirmed at my first appointment will give me so much reassurance!

@Beanybob Glad to see I'm not alone! I hope you have a health pregnancy ✨🥰

@Bundaberg84 I totally understand there's nothing I can do to prevent a chemical, I'm finding it quite frustrating as my GP won't see me at all! My partner was looking at going private for an early scan the other day, so maybe we'll do just that! Thank you, wishing you all the best 🥰

I'd go for a private scan at 6 weeks, this is routine in some countries. They don't cost that much and seeing a heartbeat certainly makes it real!

Even a doctor seeing you, won’t prevent a chemical pregnancy. With a chemical pregnancy there is nothing they can do. The GP won’t see you. It’s not just you, it’s just not standard. They’ll only see if something is wrong.

It takes a while to get your head around the fact you’re pregnant. Sometimes repeated testing works, sometimes it makes you more anxious. So if it’s making you more anxious, you should step away. Even the first appointment doesn’t necessarily give you reassurance. I know you’ve said your appointment will have an early scan but it still doesn’t give you full reassurance. My first scan was at 10 weeks because of my dates, then I had second scan at 12 weeks. I’m 15 weeks and have no reason to believe anything is wrong but still apprehensive about the 20 week scan and that everything will be alright. You can do a private scan in a few weeks but you need to make sure the timing is right as too early and they might not give a conclusive scan.

I'm going onto cycle #9 without any BFPs so far, however I 100% know I'll be doing the same thing as you if I ever get a BFP.... And I would also get an early private scan at 6 or 8 weeks. I don't think I'd really believe it until an early scan, so that would be the main reason for getting it. You should just do whatever feels right for you... if testing each day relieves your anxiety, then go for it x

Bundaberg84 · 13/06/2021 14:16

Just listen to your gut feeling. If you can have a scan at 6 weeks I'd go for it. No, you can't prevent an early miscarriage. But you can make sure you're not having an ectopic pregnancy which could be dangerous of not treated. I found out that way. If I waited until week 8 or longer it would have ruptured. Chamces that everything is alright are high, but still it will give you some sense of doing everything you can.

Thank you to everyone who has replied! Going to speak to my partner about booking in for an early scan in the next week or two! 😌😌

I think I tested every day until 6 weeks.. you're totally normal in worrying & although hard, it's fine to test everyday if it helps make you feel better ❤️ I had a chemical pregnancy too & even now I'm convinced something will go wrong.

I'm 12+1 today and had 4 private scans already - my partner kept saying it's a waste of money but he saw just how much my anxiety went down each time so has allowed me to book a 14 week & a 16 week one too - my NHS (I'm in the UK) 12 week scan is Monday and already a bag of nerves but totally normal. Just wanted to say I know exactly how you're feeling & hope your first appointment goes great - I've also had urine sample and blood tests done to confirm the pregnancy!

Wishing you so much luck and positive vibes for a healthy 9 months 🥰
