First fertility appointment - contraception advisory

Hi. I am due to attend my local NHS hospital next month for my first fertility appt. Me and my partner both have a child each from previous relationships are trying for our blended baby. He has already had his sperm tested and I've had bloodwork to confirm I'm ovulating. We have been trying since Nov 2020 but I decided to get the fertility ball rolling quickly as although my first was conceived naturally, I have PCOS, so didn't want to delay getting help. The hosp letter advises to uses barrier protection e.g. condoms between the first day of my next period and the appt, but this seems really counter-productive and I really don't want to stop TTCing in the lead up to the appt. Can anyone please advise? TIA.

Maybe a silly question but at the time of the appointment will you know whether or not you are pregnant? As in enough time for the two week wait? Personally I would go for it if so....

Unless they are going to perform an investigatory procedure on your appointment such as an HSG to check your Fallopian tubes?

Does the letter not say why?
I was never told this at my app.

Right this is going to sound vile but....perhaps the reason is that should you have had sex without barrier contraception the day before/morning of, then potentially an internal examination (if having one) could be messy? Sorry!

Difficult to answer!! I was due 2 days ago but had a bit of early spotting 5 days ago and now nothing. Pregnancy test is negative so far but now not sure when I will next ovulate/have my next period!! The appt is mid july so quite possibly.

Haha!! I don't mind vile. Yes I want going to the day before for that reason but a whole month seems strange!!

It doesn't say why but does say I may have a vaginal ultrasound, so I obviously won't have sex the day before!!

As someone else said it is possibly because they will check your tubes with dye and scan and wouldn’t want to “abort” an existing pregnancy?! But I guess as long as you’re comfortable with the slim possibility, and have done pregnancy tests beforehand then maybe just stop the couple of weeks before rather than the month.

They wouldn’t do an HSG on first app, this is normally booked in after the consultation.
You’ll have your bloods done, they do internal scan to check ovaries etc, and ask a lot of questions. HSG, if your wanting one is afew weeks later after a period.

Thank you. This makes sense.
