Short Luteal Phase after MC

Hello,

I’m wondering if any ladies have had anything similar as I’m losing my mind thinking about it!!!

I had MC on 1st March via medical management , didn’t get 1st AF until 8th May. I’ve been tracking my cycle with OPK and BBT and ovulated on day 23 which was Sunday 30th May.....yesterday Monday 7th June I started spotting and by night it was full on AF!! That’s only 8DPO :/ even if something had have happened as we dtd a lot, it would never have time to take or implant due short LP.

I have had longer cycles anyway and did do ovulation induction treatment in December before falling pregnant naturally in January. I think my LP before has been around 12 days apart from the medicated cycle it was bang on 14. I just can’t help but think that with that LP being so short and the MC is there anything else going on. I have a follow up with NHS infertility but not until end of July so wanted to reach out to see if anyone has or had anything similar. Has it been a 1 off maybe, has anyone got or had similar and what have people done to support a longer LP? Sorry for the long post , I needed to get it all out as OH can’t grasp it all xx

Hi OP. I'm sorry for your loss and I'm sorry you're now experiencing this confusion of a short LP.

As you'll know, you need that longer LP to conceive.

Anyway, I'm just writing to say I've experienced the same. My first few cycles, whether that's post MC or post birth, tend to have shorter LPs. I've been told it's because of hormones needing to become regular again and just to ride it out. For me, my LP is usually only 10 days but post MC/birth it tends to be 5 days for a few cycles before slowly increasing back to the full 10.

Thanks for replying to me @TwittleBee - that has eased my worries slightly. Oh wow that is a short LP isn’t it. I assumed it would be linked to hormones just being up and down since MC but had in my head I’ve been so set this would be the cycle it happened again for us as you’re ‘more fertile’! when I started spotting it took me back a bit ! So deflating! I’ll get back on it this cycle and see what happens and hope things get back on track this time round.

Thanks again for you response, I appreciate it x

@Blondiebrownie6 So sorry for your loss. I hope you're doing ok. I also had a mc earlier this year. Prior to this my cycles were very regular with a 14 day luteal phase. The first cycle after my mc the luteal phase was 9 days, the next one was 12 days so gradually getting back to normal. I do think it takes time for things to settle down again but I can appreciate it how frustrating is it when you want to start trying again. It's good that you've got your appointment coming up though

@Flopsy88 sorry for your loss also. Everything just feels so hard and challenging! The loss is one nightmare then the recovery and getting things back to normal is another waiting game that takes its toll mentally!

I’m glad to hear of similar stories and that hopefully it’s just hormones resettling , that makes me feel a little less dysfunctional! I should have known better that I wouldn’t just bounce back and it be a walk in the park

Hopefully the appt comes round quick, it’s 2 years this month That we’ve TTC! Who knew trying to become a mum would be so difficult , if only I could go back and tell my younger self to start sooner lol x
