NHS Fertility waiting list time?

I’ve finally got fed up of fruitless TTC and am getting referred to fertility services by the GP. Just wondering if anyone knows what the NHS waiting times for fertility referral and IVF are nowadays. I have a feeling it’s going to be at least a year due to Covid waiting list, or it is this (hopefully) dramatic Confused?

In Glasgow, Scotland and the wait for initial appt is about 9 weeks. Big waits for any tests though, so we got them all done privately

Hi, we were referred back in August, and received a letter this month to say I'm on the waiting list and it will take a while due to the backlog. So, I have no idea as it's been more than 4 months already.

Tinkerbell098 · 20/12/2021 10:05

@Infertilityishard for the initial appointment. GP referred back in August.

@Infertilityishard I was referred by my geneticist it took 3 months for me to have my first consultation testings was then done with my following period and I am currently waiting for the new financial year to start treatment - I’m at a private clinic as a NHS patients.

Infertilityishard · 20/12/2021 15:11

@Tinkerbell098 mines was 2 months from gp referral to my initial fertility appt. Then had to do all the testing after that.

@Bellwells are you starting your ivf in January. I wish you all the best with it. How long did you wait from your last appt where they discussed ivf till your actual treatment. Also what do they discuss in the ivf appt. is there anything in between that we have to do

I know two that have gone NHS , one with no fertility problems but husband has, 2 1/2 treatment before implant and got pregnant straight away. But had many problems pregnant as was underweight told to put on weight and by pregnant keep putting on weight to the point wouldn't get fertility help through NHS.

Other couple had bad experience as didn't check for cyst so lost the babies, took about 3 years. The 3 rounds was cut after the first 2 causing much stress. Went private they found the cyst and had private fertility and didn't work. In retrospect they would of skipped the NHS and gone private therefore had better chances as under 40 as wouldn't take so long. Now have no eggs left.

Think it's very unfair depending on area and don't see why the NHS should of paid for sperm for my fertilie friend as partner is over 50 and smokes even now with young kids. And she was under weight and was allowed but if was overweight wouldn't even be referred to lost the weight. After speaking to her she has never even once checked when eggs were released.

@Infertilityishard
So to give you a breakdown our referral went through just before the August bank holiday, our first appointment with the PGD consultant was Nov 3rd DH & I had our tests and blood work done two weeks later with my November cycle and our Fertility consultation was 30 Nov.

I’m due to start treatment April (the new financial year) but I am just waiting for my parents to have their bloods done so that we can see if they have the genetic condition I have or if I am De Novo. Essentially it makes the process easier if one of them (my parents) do have the condition as it makes it easier to do the genetic workup however it is a catch 22 as they would of had a genetic condition all this time and not known.

So at the IVF appointment they discuss your results and your partners results and they talk you through the type of stimulation they plan to put you on, and they give you a rough time line for everything so in my case EC genetic testing of the embryos and FET.

I hope that helps :)

@Bellwells where are you from? So for the ivf wait list it’s going to be around 4-5 months?

I can’t wait for my appt to see how long my wait is. I hope it isn’t too long!!!

Bellwells · 21/12/2021 09:36

@Infertilityishard yeah but it is only that long as they have run out of NHS funding for the year.
Im from London, I know that the wait for Guys hospital was 6/7 months from referral to your first appointment due to the COVID backlog.

Infertilityishard · 21/12/2021 22:12

@Bellwells ah that’s pretty long for initial appt. Mine was only 2 months from gp referral to initial appt- in that appt they just asked some questions about me and my husband. Then we went on to do some test like day 21 bloods and hsg. Now I’m on clomid and have another appt in jan which I hope they discuss ivf. I’m just hoping after my jan appt the ivf referral won’t take too long

Referred in September, first phone appointment last week. I need to do more blood tests on Day 3, a scan and the thing where they put dye in your tubes. No sure what happens after that.

Hey how is everyone getting on?
