I am 33 and my husband 48 and had a vasectomy over 18 years ago. I am ready to have a baby but not sure a reversal will work after so long. I also suffer from endometriosis which can be a problem. Has anyone been in the same boat? My husband is not keen to get a reversal and i am not sure what other options are available out there. Please any advice really welcome. thanks

if your hubby is not up for a reversal....and to be honest with his age you cant guarrentee with a reversal that his swimmers would still be up to the job.....donor sperm is the way to think there.....but i am going to be a surrogate mother for a friend, and a lot of the women on there are having to go through surrogacy because of endometriosis.....sorry if this is not what you wanted to hear....but i am not a doctor, and dont know the difference between their cases and yours.....may be best to talk to your GP to find out your options on a reversal and success rates with your endometreosis too.....

good luck either way!!!

Endometriosis deposits can be lasered out through laparoscopy but it very much depends on how severe the endometriosis is and where it is sited.

The biggest problem is the vasectomy. As it was done so long ago the chances of a successful reversal are poor tbh. The prognosis regarding reversal needs to be discussed with a microsurgeon at a fertility centre.

Hi Scuby

Have been there and done that !
Hubby had reversal after 11 years - not a success - after 10 years success rates extremely low (Sorry) .
However healthy sperm does live within epydomis (sp) - just cannot travel through damaged or scarred tubes and arrive in the required healthy state. (sorry if too technical - not doctor just have done this).
Other option is ICSI - (IVF with direct sperm injection) Sperm is removed directly from the body with extremely fine needle and used for fertilization.
Delighted to say that with this I fell pregnant on first attempt and I am the extremely proud mother of a delightful 2 year old little girl !
Like Attila says Endo can be cured by laser ( mine was ) - don`t think that this would hinder the IVF.

I wish you the very best of luck !

Hi Babbi

Thanks for your advice. I will look into ICSI with my doctor to see if this will be successful for me. I don't have sever endometriosis and have had scar tissue removed already and doc says have healthy womb. You have given me a glimmer of hope. Big Thanks

I have / had fairly bad endometriosis before I fell pregnant. I had no problems.

Just wanted to say that a reversal can work out after this time period. My hubby's did and chance was 1 in 3. We had to pay for it privately but it was worth it. My dd is now nearly 2.

Good luck
