Covid jab - are you or your partner having it whilst ttc?

As the question states really, are you or your partner having the covid jab whilst ttc? Or are you waiting until after you've had your baby? I am unsure what to do as concerned about wether it will reduce the chances of conceiving. Thoughts please

He had his a couple of weeks ago.

TTC can take a long time with no guarantee. I wouldn't choose to have it in the first 4-8 weeks of pregnancy if I could help it (just down to the general feeling shit, possible temp and I'd be too anxious about it affecting a foetus at that stage).

But other than that I'd be perfectly happy to be jabbed at any stage.

Hubby is having his 2nd one this week. He has asthma so was called earlier than the 30-35 age bracket we are both in. I was suppose to get my first one last week but cancelled it (I booked it whilst I thought Ttc was out of the question has hubby wanted to wait but after sitting down and talking about it a few weeks ago we decided to go for it). I am 7dpo cycle 1, ttc#1 and it didnt sit right with me so i cancelled it. I know chances of conceiving first month is unlikely but i didnt want to chance it.

Everyone is different! I know hubby would want me to go ahead with if but I didnt want to at this point so didnt xx

Thanks for your replies. Are you planning to wait any length of time after your husband has had it before you try to concieve? Forgot to add that into my original question!

I decided to have the vaccine whilst trying to conceive. I work for the NHS so was one of the first to be offered. I have also had covid and have my antibodies checked. I did my research re the vaccine and thought the risk was minimal. I booked the first vaccine for the day after AF arrived and decided that if I was pregnant by the second vaccine I would postpone until after baby arrived, thinking some protection is better than no protection. I haven't fallen pregnant yet but glad I did not delay having vaccine.

CTMcG · 16/05/2021 15:04

@Ttchelp1 no, we are actively TTC already, just a few weeks so early days. I think i would go ahead and get it if i 100% knew i wasn't pregnant so if i can get an apt during week of af i would go ahead but if i fell pregnant before the 2nd dose i would hold off till after i had baby.

Its so tough to know what to do, isnt it?

TakeYourFinalPosition · 16/05/2021 15:05

We both did. I got pregnant the following month. DH has his second tomorrow, mine is in a few weeks (as the doctor will do mine now that I’m pregnant).

I’m glad we had it. It didn’t affect TTC at all. It hasn’t affected pregnancy and I hope it means I’ll pass on some immunity to the baby.

Ok, when my husband has his which is likely to be soon I don't know whether we should delay trying as worry about what it could do to his sperm. Yes it's so tough to know what to do especially as I'm not getting any younger!

@Ttchelp1 I wouldn't personally but I have no intention of having it anyway 🤷‍♀️.

Ya91 · 16/05/2021 18:30

Personally I’m going to wait until I’ve given birth, due to the limited research on this vaccination and pregnant women.

I don't blame you! Will your partner be having it?

For me personally I'm waiting until I've finished having my family x

Verbena87 · 16/05/2021 18:56

I’m having mine on Wednesday and starting hormones for frozen embryo transfer Friday, transfer in June if all goes well.

Clinic have said it’s personal choice, and I am a classroom teacher so feel very exposed at work.

I may have decided differently if I was able to work from home, it is all tricky without loads of data.

Sunnytimes21 · 16/05/2021 20:03

We're on third month ttc and I'm in two minds. I'm 40 and feel that the odds are already against us, I'm reluctant to unsettle my body atm. If I do have it then it will probably be a spur of the moment decision on cd1, or soon after that. DP is keen to have his done but is holding off for this month, because he knows I'm reluctant while ttc. But I don't want to hold him back, on my wishes. So difficult

feliznavidad2 · 16/05/2021 21:01

I've had both of my vaccines, work in the NHS. Now TTC, second jab was just over a month ago.

letsmakethishappen · 16/05/2021 21:49

I had my first jab (NHS worker) got pregnant 8 weeks later. I have just missed my 2nd dose obviously as in first trimester.

Verbena87 · 16/05/2021 21:55

@letsmakethishappen is it advised to delay until the second trimester? I’m thinking I’ll just take things one step at a time as my embryo might not stick.

letsmakethishappen · 16/05/2021 22:11

It’s personal choice I wouldn’t have any vaccine or medication apart from Paracetamol and antiemetics in the first trimester as that’s the critical time for for baby’s development.xx

CTR1000 · 16/05/2021 22:15

I had my first in December (NHS front line) and my second in early March. Fell pregnant first cycle of trying in March!

Do what feels right to you, but I honestly don’t have concerns about the vaccine either in terms of fertility or safety for baby. I did however look after some very sick pregnant women with Covid during both waves...

PinkDaffodil2 · 16/05/2021 22:16

I had both Pfizer jabs while TTC (breastfeeding so still trying!). Especially back in January/ February I probably would have delayed until after the first trimester if I were pregnant so I’m very happy to be protected before I have to make that call.

Dyra · 16/05/2021 22:50

I wasn't TTC when I had the first dose, but I was by the time I had the second dose (Astra Zeneca). NHS front line. I figured that since DC1 took a long, long time to conceive, there was no point in delaying the second jab. Better to have maximum coverage ASAP. DH hasn't been offered the jab yet, but he's probably going to go for it when he is.

It is so hard, I feel exactly like you about my partner, I dont want to hold him back but within myself I hope and pray it doesn't make things harder

Did you skip a cycle of ttc after you had the jab?

@Ttchelp1 no, didn't delay.

nancywhitehead · 17/05/2021 07:24

What makes you think it will have any effect on your fertility when all of the evidence so far about this vaccine and others is that it does not have any effect?
