Hi all,

I had the nexplanon implant for 6 consecutive years, a new one at 3 year intervals. I had it removed in August 2020 and still have had absolutely NO luck in conceiving.

I just feel like completely giving up, the pain I feel is just unbearable and I can't stand the negative results anymore.

I've had more than my fair share of indents / false positives on FRER and I just don't know how much more I can take.

Has anybody else struggled with conceiving following the implant? Sad

@jessicarolfe I hear ya! Had my implant out on 13 May last year and still haven't managed to conceive. Also found out that my DHs sperm count it on the lower side (but not drastically so) which won't be helping matters.
I am not sure whether it is the implant though as have heard of lot of people getting pregnant quickly after having it removed so wonder if it would have taken a while for me to conceive anyway. Although I am getting very impatient, It seems relatively common for it to take a year.

Have you had children before op, are you sure it’s related to the implant? Have you sought advice from a gp or is it still too soon?

How are your periods since removal? It took nearly 6 months for me to get my period back after removal (I only had occasional light spotting when it was in) and then a further 10 months for me to conceive but then it did happen and I've since gone on to have two more babies (first was conceived after 2 months TTC and the second was a complete accident)

As another poster suggested, is it worth seeing if there is something else stopping you from conceiving? I know August 2020 seems like a long time away, but it's quite normal for TTC to take up to a year, even if there are no underlying issues.

Thank you so much for your help and suggestions and for putting my mind at rest.
I was actually admitted into hospital August of last year as I had extreme stomach pain and whilst I was in there they thought it could be endometriosis or PCOS..
it turns out it was completely not fertility related however I did have a full fertility check at the time and everything came back fine and normal, so I don't think that it is me.

I do have a very high BMI and so does my partner so I guess it could be weight related?

This is just so hard.

Hi @jessicarolfe I had my implant removed after 5 years (3 years for first, 2 years on second) in July 2020. We've had no luck conceiving, my cycles are very irregular and have been up to 72 days. I'm debating going to the Drs but between their service restrictions and my high BMI I'm pretty not sure whether to make an appointment or not!

I'm currently on CD62, supposedly 16dpo according to my app but I honestly don't know if I ovulated or not as I know I didn't on previous cycles.

Bluntness100 · 26/04/2021 21:26

Op it depends how high your bmi is, but if it’s into obesity then yes it can have a negative effect as fat cells produce oestrogen which can prevent you ovulating. It doesn’t mean it makes it Impossible but it can make it much harder to fall pregant.

I have read the information from the nexplanon website saying that my cycle should be back regular immediately. Is that all a lie? Or maybe I need a blood test to say if I'm pregnant or not
