Anyone use Metformin while TTC???

So I found out yesterday that I have "slight" PCOS.
My ovaries, egg count and quality are extremely healthy and I'm ovulating with regular periods.

However my weight is a major issue. I try so hard to loose it but fail. I will shift about a stone and then it stops and I start putting it back on.

I've been told this is a result of PCOS and have been prescribed Metformin to help with weight loss and could potentially help me fall pregnant as I have no other issues.

Has anyone used this before??
Has anyone managed to fall pregnant when using this? I have heard they can make you really poorly too?

Hi hun

I was recently diagnosed with slight pcos too. ..my periods were very irregular. I.e no fixed dates. Ive been on it for 3months now and still waiting to be blessed with good news. However, I have heard of success with it from others so im hopeful

I was prescribed it whilst having ivf and took it until week 20, to help reduce risk of early miscarriage. (This was 12 years ago - DD is thriving 11 year old).) I have pcos controlled through weight management rather than drugs, but at the time wanted to give ivf the best chance of working so did everything.

See I have regular periods and I ovulate but I struggle so bad with my weight I can loose a stone no problem then it stops and I will start putting weight back on no matter what I do.
I eat and drink really healthy and walk all over with my dog just doesn't make sense.

Hoping it will help but at the minute it seems like the is is the only thing holding me back.

I've heard that you should take this for the first 20 weeks or so but the gp told my friend to stop taking it. She continued and was absolutely fine

I took Metformin for several years prior to falling pregnant with dd1. Never went back onto it after pregnancy as didn't seem to need it and now trying to conceive #2 so will see how it goes. Remember you can still be overeating in terms of portion size despite eating healthily. You could look at following a low GI/blood sugar diet as pcos is closely linked to insulin resistance and there are lots of foods (for example a baked sweet potato) that are really bad choices if struggling with insulin issues - I found it eye opening that just because something is 'healthy' doesn't mean it's the right think in my position 😊

Good luck!

I've not used Metformin but I am currently using the product Ovasitol which is often recommended as a natural alternative to Metformin for PCOS/conception, as it also reduces insulin levels, but without the side effects of metformin. I am using it to help me ovulate regularly. I've only been using it for about a month, but I have noticed my sugar cravings have completely disappeared so it could help with weight loss too! Ovasitol's main competitor product is Inofolic Alpha, which I think is more easily available in the UK.
