HyCoSy - Any Advice? *MC/MMC Trigger*

I'm booked in for my HyCoSy next week and wondered if anyone could give me any advice on the procedure please? The nurse today as said to take paracetamol 1 hour-30mins before my appointment and that I may experience a little period like cramping (I'm lucky and don't tend to suffer period pain usually) and spotting for a few days. Were you able to to return to work afterwards?

I've had day 2 to 4 bloods done. DH has done his SA and I've got day 21 bloods booked in for May. Back story is we were pregnant within 4 months of first TTC in 2019 had a MC then conceived the following month but had a MMC and had to have MVA by local aneathetic. We took a break from TTC for fear of a 3rd MC although regretting this now as I'm nearly 36 and have been TTC for almost a year and doing everything the same yet nothing seems to be happening.

Thanks in advance xxx

Hi there, really sorry for your losses. I had my HyCoSy last week. I was advised ibuprofen, but didn't have any on me, so took another NSAID and a paracetamol. I had other painkillers I could drive with for after if I needed them. Pain wise it was very mild afterwards. All the fluid leaks out though, so bring pads. My clinic had some pads to use, but if you are going back to work maybe take a few with you. It really only needed 1 pad though for me. I went home after because I booked mine for the end of the day, but would have went to work had it been the morning.

@SingleTTC31 Thank you for your support and advice. I naively never thought about the fluids leaking afterwards so thank you for the honest warning, I will take extra pads. I requested an afternoon appointment but they only do them in the mornings sadly. Do you mind me asking was it painful during the procedure? xxx

@PinkFizz19 don't mind you asking at all. It was a sharp cramping type pain when the catheter was close or at the uterine wall. But my AF was late so had a very think endometrium at the time, so think that was partly why. The pain was localized though to wherever the catheter was. Honest I would say more discomfort than pain. It was a shock when the catheter went past my cervix, my Dr had been talking me through what she was doing, but she hadn't expected it to slip past as quickly so didn't get a chance to warn me before she did it. She was apologetic and kept checking in as she carried out the procedure. Have you had a transvaginal ultrasound before? And a Smear? It's a combination of both but with the catheter pain in the uterus too.

I hope that doesn't make it seem too horrid it really wasn't.

@SingleTTC31 Thank you so much. That helps and doesn't sound too horrid. Yes I've had regular smears and had transvaginal ultrasounds with both pregnancies which were always fine. The MVA wasn't nice so I think that's got me a bit nervous. Did you get your results straight afterwards? I'm sure the nurse said I'll get to discuss my results and what we'll do next after it although I've not had my day 21 bloods yet? xxx

Yes I got the results straight away. I haven't had 21 day bloods either so don't think it will make a difference. I had already decided course of action ahead of HyCoSy so the clear HyCoSy was just confirmation that I could go on to the next stage.

@SingleTTC31 brilliant. Thank you so much for your help. I really appreciate it. Hopefully by this time next week I'll have some answers and be able to start progressing things 🤞🏼🤞🏼 Hope your TTC journey goes well from here on 💖 xxx

I had my HyCoSy today and although uncomfortable, it wasn't as bad as I imagined. In fact I didn't even feel the tube entering the cervix or the fluid going in and had none leaking out afterwards, a bit concerned they didn't actually do it!
The only painful bit was the speculum being opened and when they removed the tube the balloon wouldn't deflate!
Anyway thank you for the info and support it was a great help. Hope your treatments are going well
