Clearblue OPK static smiley

I am in serious need of clearblue digital advanced experts!

My last cycle was 43 days. (First proper one off the pill after a 90 day cycle.)

I'm now on CD27 and based on my last 43 day cycle, apps predict I will ovulate tomorrow. (I didn't ovulate last month so have nothing to go on.)

This morning I got my 7th day of flashing smiley. Decided to test again just now at 1pm and got a static. I don't know whether to be happy about getting my first static or whether this is really just measuring the rise compared to using FMU because we all know LH is more detectable in the afternoons?

Any insights gratefully received!

Hi I’ve just had the exact same thing happen to me! Tested in the evening of my 7th flashing smiley day and got a static! I believe it was right as I had been testing twice a day for the 4 days before that and all were still the flashing face, that was beginning to drive me mad! 🙈 sorry if tmi but I also had ewcm that afternoon as well so I think there’s a good chance the clear blue test is correct! Good luck 🤞

murmurlade · 17/03/2021 14:11

Thanks for replying @Lizzybubble – wish I'd done a couple of tests a day like you, because then when it remained flashing I would know ok it's not peak yet. As it stands I will never know because now static will remain constantly displayed won't it, argh!

Anyway I suppose it makes no actual difference... keep DTD and pray for no period in 2 weeks' time 😄

How long have you been trying? Good luck to you!!!

murmurlade · 17/03/2021 14:13

And no I'm glad you said about EWCM, there's no TMI on mumsnet! 😂 I've just noticed it being more... wet. Sorry that's gross. But last cycle I had absolutely nothing to speak of

Static means you are likely to be ovulating in the next 48 hours. The static has detected the surge and it would still be flashing had you not yet surged. Good luck!

Lizzybubble · 17/03/2021 15:56

I’m glad it wasn’t tmi 😂 i think if it was more wet than usual that’s a good sign it was fertile cm 😃 I only started testing twice a day as I was so impatient but its an expensive habit as they are not cheap! 🙈 I’m certainly no expert by any means but I think your static would most likely be right as the LH surge is normally a sudden rise that the test picks up so don’t think the morning to afternoon would be enough of a change to give a false postive if that makes sense also the first few days I only tested in the morning and it didn’t change on the 4th day when I did a second test in the evening, was still flashing away! This is my first cycle ttc after an early miscarriage, so hopping I get a sticky one when I fall again ❤️ Is this your second cycle?

murmurlade · 17/03/2021 22:10

Ah thanks both for explaining! That makes sense.

@Lizzybubble so sorry to hear about your MC. That must have been so difficult (and still must be). I wish you all the luck in the world for your baby. Are you trying for your first?

Yeah I'm on my second real cycle but came off the pill in Oct and this is the first time I've actually (hopefully) ovulated so even that is an achievement for me 😄

Lizzybubble · 18/03/2021 09:11

Thanks @murmurlade it just wasn't ment to be is the only way I can look at it. It sounds like you have ovulated hun, so now the 2ww 😬 I'm only 3 DPO and times already dragging 😂 I'm ttc my third. How about you? Both my boys were conceived 2nd cycle after coming off the pill so fingers crossed for you! 💗

Daffodil21 · 18/03/2021 09:19

@Lizzybubble it doesn't mean she's ovulated yet, it means she's about to in the next day or two :)

Lizzybubble · 18/03/2021 09:49

Sorry my mistake I ment it sounds like you will
be ovulating this cycle 😊

Daffodil21 · 18/03/2021 09:59

Sorry to butt in again! The OPKs don't actually confirm you've ovulated, they confirm that you've produced enough of the hormone you need to ovulate, so if you're concerned you're not ovulating you'll need a progesterone blood test at 7DPO (they're called 21 day bloods but not everyone ovulated on day 14!) sorry if you already know this!

murmurlade · 18/03/2021 10:28

Thanks @Daffodil21 you are totally right, it's my hope talking 😄 I think I'm going to request day 21 bloods then (which for me will be more like day 38 bloods I think? 7 days before expected period, is that right?) I also have a pelvic ultrasound this week as I had a haemorrhagic cyst that they are going to check again. So maybe I will ask them if they can see evidence of ovulation. I'm not sure if that's possible!

OP posts:
Daffodil21 · 18/03/2021 10:31

@murmurlade it depends on your luteal phase I think. So if you had a 10 day luteal phase for example I think it would have to be 3 days before AF. If that makes sense? So I would try and time it for 7DPO and then you don't have to worry about your luteal phase. If you know it's 14 days then 7 days before AF would be right

Hope your scan goes ok!

murmurlade · 18/03/2021 10:32

@Lizzybubble I'm TTC for the first time so that's why I am more sort of anxious (not normally an anxious person!) but just want to make sure I CAN if you know what I mean!

When you say you are 3DPO, when do you count that from? Hypothetically, say you got a static on a Monday morning, would you assume you likely ovulate on Tuesday, and count Wednesday as 1DPO? Sorry I am sounding a bit needy here 😂 I bow to your wisdom

OP posts:
Daffodil21 · 18/03/2021 10:32

I'm also not sure if it's possible if they can see if you've ovulated. I had a scan 7DPO and they just asked where I was in my cycle. It was an abnormally long cycle though so maybe I didn't ovulate at all 🤷‍♀️

murmurlade · 18/03/2021 10:33

Thanks @Daffodil21 that makes sense! How long are your cycles?

OP posts:
Daffodil21 · 18/03/2021 10:35

@murmurlade that is exactly how I would count it. Although I would probably say I ovulated on Wednesday/Thursday though as it can be up to 48 hours after a static. Been in this game for a couple of years but currently 19 weeks so happy to share anything that can help!!

Lizzybubble · 18/03/2021 10:49

@murmurlade I know what you mean, Im using them to reassure myself that I'm ovulating after the mc. Like @Daffodil21said they don't prove you've actually ovulated like a blood test etc. But they have certainly helped to reassure me that my body is at least realising the hormones! Also having a regular 28 day cycle normally I expected peak around day 13 but was actually day 15 going by the opk. So I got my Staic smiley on Sunday 6pm so going by what I've read means likely to ovulate within 12-36 hours. So I took Monday as ovulation day and then Tuesday as 1DPO. Hope that's helps hun 💗

Daffodil21 · 18/03/2021 10:55

@murmurlade mine vary typically from 33-38 days, but over the last 2 years there has been several 42 cycles, one 28 and even one 50!

@Lizzybubble sorry to hear about your mc, don't give up hope. I've had 3, all early, and currently 19 weeks. I conceived the cycle following mc in November and didn't have a period at all in between. Fingers crossed for you

murmurlade · 18/03/2021 15:20

Thank you both for your advice. Just had my ultrasound and they said no sign of ovulation, all follicles were small so I think I might have to give up on the OPKs 😞

OP posts:
Daffodil21 · 18/03/2021 15:26

@murmurlade did they give you any advice at all?

murmurlade · 18/03/2021 15:41

No she asked "whose care are you under, is it the clinic at this hospital?" And I said oh nowhere yet, as my GP had said she would refer me if I was 38 but not now as I am 30. The sonographer was a bit like hmmm definitely ask to be referred. So now I just feel really sad! I really thought this month was getting back to normal. Sorry to be glum! Appreciate you asking x

OP posts:
Daffodil21 · 18/03/2021 15:45

@murmurlade that's odd. IME you get referred after you've been TTC for a year if you're under 35, and 6 months if you're 35+. I had to wait a year to get any blood tests or scans done. Waiting until you're 38 doesn't sound right at all to me. Good you've got some checks done though!

murmurlade · 18/03/2021 16:06

Yes, I think it's because I had months of no periods and my bloods etc have never suggested that I am ovulating. So apparently they investigate that as without ovulation you're not really even TTC

OP posts:
Lizzybubble · 18/03/2021 16:25

@murmurlade so sorry to hear that sending you hugs ❤️ I've not had any fertility tests myself but waiting till your 38 doesn't seem right at all. I also thought it was a year if your under 35. I think you should mention to your Gp that they mentioned being referred at the scan. Wishing you all the luck in the world for the future ❤️

Lizzybubble · 18/03/2021 16:29

Thankyou @Daffodil21 and I'm sorry to hear about your mc's too. Congratulations on your pregnancy! ❤️ It's really nice to hear people that have been thorough it have gone on to have healthy pregnancy's! 😊
