Please help. Think I conceived at the weekend

My contraception failed at the weekend. For more reasons than one, I couldn't possibly have a baby now. I went to see my GP and she has arranged for me to have a post coital coil fitted today (which will be 4 days after). She doesn't think the EC pill is as effective and given my circumstances I need to make absolutely sure I don't get pg. But if I have already conceived is it too late for the coil to work anyway? I have a feeling it may have already happened. I am at my most fertile and I have sore tingly boobs and feel "different"

Any advice?

if you're that worried. dont get ur coil fitted today. cancel the appointment, wait untill your due in, do a test if negative get coil fitted, if positve, rethink!

Hi bealcain. Thing is, it would be a total disaster if I was pg, so I'm really panicking. My GP said that the post coital coil is effective up to 5 days after sex. Would that be the case if I've already conceived though?

if you are there is that pill you take.

if you only had sex at the weekend you wouldn't be feeling different yet - implantation doesn't occur for 7-10 days after fertilisation, so it's highly probable that your feeling different is a simptom of your worry/thinking you could be pregnant iyswim.

If gp says that the pc coyle is effective up to 5 days after then you should be ok.

relax, have the coil fitted, and all should be ok. If you're uneasy about having the coil fitted then wait for your period and do a test and rethink then.

Thanks for replies. I wanted a coil fitted anyway for contraception, as the pill has been causing me to have terrible break outs. Is there a reason to be uneasy about having it fitted? I would rather that than have to have a termination later...

The coil will work by preventing any fertilised egg from implanting which is why it is effective if it is put in 5 days post intercourse.

I was in exactly the same boat and had the coil fitted on day 5
Worked a treat
Still got it 8 years later and v happy with it

Thanks. Bluejelly - did they give you antibiotics and a pessary? Well I had it done and it was v painful, I think because I couldn't relax! But hopefully it will be worth it.

No they didn't... but this was a while back. Glad you got it done, bet you feel relieved!
