Not Ovulating, what can I do?

Starfish789 · 10/03/2021 15:33

Hi,

I have been TTC number 2 for over a year and I am looking for a bit of advice or help. I have been to my GP and had day 21 bloods. I was told that I am not ovulating . The GP confirmed that I do not have PCOS and all other hormone levels are normal.

Unfortunately in the area I live there are no fertility services on the NHS. So there is no chance to get Clomid via the GP.

At this moment in time the only option is going private however due to finances this would be very difficult.

I was wondering has anyone had a similar experience? Any natural remedies? or any supplements I could try?

I have been using pregnacare pre-conception but that just made my periods longer and more painful.

I concieved my first DD very quickly and my cycles were very regular. However after giving birth I didn’t have a period for 8 months eventhough I was only breastfeeding for the first few months only. Now my cycles are approx 45-47 days on average.

Any advise or your experiences would be appreicated.

I haven’t read the whole thread OP, sorry if you have answered and I missed. What was your day 21 result?

Shannonttc · 11/03/2021 16:08

I used pregnacare before conception and found I had horrible side effects so stopped taking them and conceived that month 🙂 it may have been a coincidence but I found not trying to control it too much helped, I stopped trying and fell pregnant that same month so maybe try not stressing yourself out too much x

@Starfish789 btw I mean your gp lying not you. Depending where you are in Essex I have a lady I get private scans off. When I wasn't monitored on my first Clomid cycle I ended up in agony and my Nhs consultant said they couldn't bring me in even for a scan so I went to this lady for a private one (£90) and I had 5 ruptured haemorraghic cysts (secondary to ovulation hence how they know I potentially released 5 eggs) but also enlarged ovaries and lots of free fluid in my pelvis. I was in pain for about 2-3 weeks with it and reading up it looks like I had mild OHSS so please make sure you get monitored if you go down the Clomid route. I'm back on it this cycle but they are bringing me in for scans this time

thislittlebird · 11/03/2021 16:14

@Starfish789
I think the monitoring cost would push it right up in the south east, I looked into having one cycle monitored recently in London. I would see a private consultant perhaps. Useful to know things like your propensity for OHSS before going down that route. I say this as someone who may or may not be ovulating based on my day 21 result and hoping for clomid and monitoring in the coming months because I’ve had a scan and I know how many follicles I have now.

ElspethFlashman · 11/03/2021 16:19

My bloods showed that I wasn't ovulating too.

Definitely not PCOS.

I was referred but in the meantime I took matters into my own hands and bought some Vitamin B6. It helps produce progesterone. You need progesterone to ovulate.

By the time my referral came through I was several months pregnant.

@Crazydoglady123

Whoa *@Starfish789* just read you're in Essex, so am I! So that is an absolute lie! There is no funding for IVF in Essex but fertility treatment and investigations there is! What hospital is your catchment hospital?
my CCG is mid Essex. Broomfeild hospotal in Chelmsford.

so sorry to hear about your experience. Did the GP refer you to a specialist?

@Starfish789 same as me! Somehow when my gp referred me I saw my consultant first at Colchester but have to have my appointments at Ipswich hospital. I don't even know why or how. I'm heading for IVF next cycle private with Simply Fertility if this last Clomid cycle isn't successful and for my AFC scan earlier this week the nurse said she couldn't understand why I was referred to Broomfield as that's the nearest infertility/gynae clinic on the NHS. Can you maybe speak to a different doctor at your surgery?

Congratulations! I am heading to the shops later so will pick up some b6!

I was told i definately do not have PCOS too.

I was just thinking that, I will be asking to speak to a different doctor. I am kind of annoyed with myself for not questioning it till now.

Ok yeah that’s quite low @Starfish789 but do what others have said and get a second opinion/more tests/a referral/take b6, see if you can get more info etc. It could be taken the wrong day or just a one off cycle.

One thing I’ve found is stress is messing with everything for me, periods, progesterone and so on, not sure if that’s a factor for you but might be worth considering if it is.

But important to get more info before clomid.

I had a similar experience. I went a couple of months basically not stressing or thinking about it but not sure if I ever actually switched of😬

@Starfish789 my fertility consultant started me on Letrozole and gave my 3 cycles worth and on the last cycle to have CD21 bloods which went on to show I hadn't ovulated on it so he moved me straight onto two cycles of Clomid and instead of doing tracking/scans just wanted to do CD21 bloods on second cycle. I don't think he was expecting me to over stimulate like I did tbh. I'm due to start it again tomorrow and have a CD12 scan to see if it happens again

It’s the other way around, you need ovulation (and therefore a corpus luteum) to make more than a baseline amount of progesterone 👍

Hi op, similar situation to you. I breastfed exclusively for five months then decided to start reducing to encourage my periods back to start TTC. Within nine months of completely stopping I'd only had three periods which were getting lighter and further apart. Pre baby I'd never had problems with periods. My Dr checked me for PCOS and confirmed not PCOS but agreed to try me on Metformin as it's known to regulate periods. Less than two weeks later I had a normal period and four weeks after that a BFP. I'd say give Metformin a shot before Clomid if possible. It's brilliant stuff! I tried loads of natural supplements and nothing worked unfortunately. Good luck!

Hi,

Yes that is a good idea, I might approach the doctor and ask for metformin to regulate periods as my cycles are very long, and as this is technically not ‘fertility’ which they say they don’t do.

Hi, I hope you don’t mind me bumping this thread OP.

For situational reasons DH and I won’t be able to start TTC for 12 months but at 36 and no prior children, I wanted to check if all OK. My GP suggested I have the 21 day bloods to put my mind at ease and I naively thought it would be ok…

I got my period the day after the test so kind of thought that it wouldn’t have a correct result, but my GP told me I’m not ovulating even after knowing this and that, if we were TTC at 6 months, I would now be referred to a fertility clinic. I was so shocked I didn’t really know what to ask or say and just wanted to get off the phone quickly :(

I just wanted to ask if anyone has had a similar result and if bloods the day before period would give me a skewed result. I’m going to call my GP to ask more questions now I’ve had a chance to get my head around it but wanted to ask for any input for other woman going through something similar. Sending lots of love to you all x
