Just that really, had a ruptured ectopic in June 2019 right fallopian tube removed, been trying pretty much since 6 weeks later I had my HSG xray that showed my other tube had no blockages & it just isn’t happening are there any success stories anyone can share? I’ve read the stats and other threads that say people with one tube have gone on to have healthy pregnancies and only having one tube doesn’t actually half the chances but the longer time goes on I just can’t help wonder maybe sometimes it does?? I’ve tried everything alls that’s left now is to keep the faith but I feel like even thats fading away, I’m so close to stop TTC as it’s like self harm every month if I’m honest. My partner announced one of his friends girlfriend is pregnant tonight and I stormed off to bed like it was his fault 😂 I’m so irrational and I can’t help it it’s so so frustrating anyway sorry for the rant any (recentish) success stories would be appriciated x

So sorry OP- I had an ectopic in 2013 resulting in a tube removal. At the time the drs said my other tube was so scared I would struggle to have children and shouldn’t wait until after 30 to try (I was 25). I was in bits but didn’t actually want children then (ectopic was an accident).
Started trying for children at 30, got pregnant with both my daughters (2 pregnancies) on my first cycles on deciding. Two healthy pregnancies, 2 healthy children by 34 (youngest is 4 months old) I feel incredibly lucky.

Scarred*

So's sorry OP. We moved on to IVF after 12 months of no success after my ectopic

Personally I think the stats that losing a tube doesn't affect your fertility is rubbish as everyone I know who has had an ectopic and lost a tube has struggled. There is also some evidence that the right ovary is the dominant one - I did follicle tracking for a while and ovulated on my right side 90% of the time therefore losing a right tube is more likely to affect future conception than a left tube? They say that the remaining tube can sweep over and pick the egg up but in my I experience there is the exception rather than the norm and depends on lots of factors like how free flowing the tube is wks scar tissue etc

Is IVF something you'd want to do? X

Thank you onlyfools congratulations on your girls!! Did you do anything when you began trying although caught first time had you had any supplements or opks or anything? I feel like I’ve exhausted every avenue. I am extremely luck to have a ds from a previous relationship he’s 12 this year which also means despite the fact my partner has no children we wont qualify for ivf because i already have a child (unless funded ourselves which at the moment isnt possible) I’m 31 so its nice to see your age too x

Sorry ivfbeenbusy posted before I seen your reply, my remaining tube at first was described the day after the surgery as “tourtous” & had attatched itself to my cesarean scar, so I really pushed for the HSG probably too soon if I’m honest my head was a mess but the xray showed a perfectly non twisted non attached free flowing little tube I just feel so helpless, some months I’ve gone full throttle opks pre conception tablets brazil nuts for him ect then other months I’ve thought fuck it! But in a nutshell we have been having unprotected sex, the majority of 21 months actively ttc & nothing, I don’t even know if the GP are doing fertility referals at this point or if they would even refer me due to me already having a dc? I’ve told my partner to leave me so many times as I fear I won’t be able to give him his own, we are a tight family all 3 of us reguardless but I just feel so down and like he would be better off without someone with what seems like only a 50% chance and that’s not really working out?! Sorry my heads all over the place xx

How do you follicle track? X

No sorry OP, no practical advice I just stopped the pill and got pregnant- and I know I’m incredibly lucky. Just wanted you to know if can happen.
Thought of getting your partner tested?

I should also say that I've had 2 ectopics and ultimately lost both tubes....both caused by scar tissue/adhesions from my c section. My tubes never worked again after my DD and I never had a uterine pregnancy again (until I had twins in January from IVF)

I pushed to get a HSG after my first ectopic and was told it was "clear" and looked perfect but still Lost it following an IVF transfer. I feel quite strongly that the HSG offers false hope as it can only tell you if it's blocked or not and not if it actually works

Follicle tracking is done via ultrasound - I'd have a couple of scans from around 12DPO confirming that I had a dominant follicle and what side it was etc but even though at the time I still had my right tube and ovulated on that side most of the time we still didn't get pregnant naturally

Sorry my story isn't the best news - IVF doesn't have to be super expensive - there are lots of funding options now and also cheaper clinics like ABC that so cycles for £3k x

Ginger89 · 08/03/2021 10:35

I have a gut feeling it’s to do with my c section scarring, although the HSG showed no blockages I don’t think the surgeon would of lied about the condition of the other tube as he was practically in there seen it with his own eyes if that makes sense, I feel a bit silly I googled follicle tracking after I seen your comment, onlyfools I was going to call the gp after it had been 12 months and then covid happens so I just sort of assumed anything other than corona was being looked into I think I’m going to call them today to get the ball rolling I don’t even know what to say to them any advice? Xx

Congratulations on your twins! Two lovely rainbows x

The problem is that having no blockages is only part of the solution. Inside the tubes are thousands of tiny hair like muscles which push the egg through it to the uterus - there is no test to see if these work (other than getting pregnant in the right place) and no way of fixing them if they don't work.

My surgeon told me after I lost the first tube that my remaining one looked "perfect"

Unfortunately as you already have a child there isn't much the GP will do other than maybe a sperm test and day 21 progesterone. I paid privately for follicle tracking x
