Vaccine when TTC

Hi all,
I’m struggling on whether to get the COVID vaccine or not? I’m a key worker and currently TTC. I checked online the other month for risks and it was advised not to have it while TTC or pregnant and now it says there’s no indications not to have it so I thought I would just ask people’s opinions as personally I don’t want to risk it but I’m not sure if I’m overthinking it? I don’t mind about catching COVID it’s personally not a worry of mine however I am worried about it becoming mandatory to have the vaccine

I'd worry more about getting covid when pregnant tbh. I'm TTC,a hpc and have had the jab. So have my friends in the same situation.

Genevive123 · 07/03/2021 20:12

Think it's personal opinion! im not having it whilst TTC :)

NutellaEllaElla · 07/03/2021 20:25

I'd go with the Royal College of Obstetricians over some random internet strangers personal opinions.

Pinkpong1 · 07/03/2021 20:30

@NutellaEllaElla sorry for the confusion I’m not asking for people to make the decision for me I was asking for personal opinions who are in the same situation

I'll be having it ASAP and am TTC. Catching covid when pregnant is proven to be dangerous whereas there's no evidence or scientific reason to suggest the vaccine would be, so for me the odds are far in favour of getting it.

fairgame84 · 07/03/2021 20:34

Im ttc and I had it last month as the advice changed. I already have a child and have a cardiac problem so if I was pregnant and caught covid it could put me in hospital. Im a frontline worker as well so there's a good chance I could catch it from my patients.

broom1389 · 07/03/2021 20:37

I had my covid vaccine today and I'm TTC. Me and my partner are taking a relaxed approach with TTC and have not been tracking much but I do think we missed ovulation this month so felt more comfortable having the vaccine.

I think it's all about how you feel, do what you're comfortable with Smile

Pinkpong1 · 07/03/2021 20:40

Thank you for your opinions I appreciate them Smile I am not for or against the vaccine I’m just concerned that once I’ve had it I can’t go back and I’d be devastated if it changed again that is my only issue but as you’s are saying it is personal choice so I shall take my time with my decision until I am 100% Smile x

@Pinkpong1 exactly! Think exactly what's best for you :) for me it's not to have it, for others it's to have it :) everyone's got completely different opinions but it's nice to hear everyone else's :) x

I'm a frontline worker. Had covid back end of last year. DP and I are TTC. I had the first dose of vaccine in January when guidance changed. I am still TTC and will continue. If by luck I am pregnant by the second vaccine (next month) I'll cross that bridge when it comes to it. I'm mid 30s and this will be my first baby. I don't feel time is on my side but having the 1 vaccine will still give me some protection.

Pinkpong1 · 07/03/2021 20:45

@Genevive123 I agree it’s nice to hear from people in the same situation and there reasons why they have had it and why they haven’t as I don’t have friends in the same situation so it’s difficult to know Smile x

@LemonDrizzle44 good luck to you I wish you all the best Smile x

It's a very personal decision and a very difficult one at that. I had the vaccine last month whilst TTC and then had a BFP just four weeks later. I am still confident in my decision. I really would not want Covid whilst pregnant. After reading all the information available, and the fact they'd changed the guidelines in Jan to say there's no need to delay getting pregnant, that was enough for me. The next question is whether to get my second vaccine due in April?!

Pinkpong1 · 07/03/2021 21:02

@catemor absolutely it’s very difficult! Aww congratulations to you that’s great to hear! Grin x

Timed it so my first injection was whilst on my period early this year, which made me feel more relaxed about getting it.
Didn’t stop TTC and nearing time for my second injection now.
I think I would have felt worse each cycle if I hadn’t got the vaccine, to not be pregnant and still relatively higher risk of COVID.

Twochews78 · 07/03/2021 21:36

I got my vaccine yesterday and we’re going to start TTC in a week. I thought it was best to get some protection as I’m Asthmatic and also 42. xx

Minster2012 · 07/03/2021 21:48

I've had my vaccine (high risk) and have also had 3 lots of ivf during the pandemic & was told 3 weeks ago by my ivf consultant he was happy I had the first dose & he's not concerned by me having it & he knows we've been off contraception since being off the ivf drugs & said "it's just lip service for TTC as it's a new drug in his opinion". As I'm high risk the new guidelines are for pregnant women to have the second dose too so we can go ahead with my second dose as well as our next round of ivf too. If I weren't high risk current advise is to have the first dose then not TTC for 2 months and as an organisation they have to stick by that so he said he would have had to go by that & we would have to wait...but he said he expected the advice to change in the not to distant future either. So basically he doesn't think it poses a risk for TTC. I'm happy I'm protected & personally I don't think it presents a concern for me.

Greenrubber · 07/03/2021 22:04

The only reason I can see why it wouldn't be advisable to have the vaccine is because a common side effect is a fever!
There has been studies done in which they have linked fever in early pregnancy and just before actually becoming pregnant to spinal deformities
But if you were to catch covid you don't know how your body would react.

broom1389 · 08/03/2021 09:35

Hi just a quick update on the covid vaccine. I had mine yesterday and have had a rough 12 hours. I've felt achy all over my body, a really bad headache and have barely slept a wink all night. Checked my temperature this morning and I was 37.8 which is a lot higher than my normal 36.2.

This is not to put anyone off because everybody's reaction is different but if your contemplating having the vaccine whilst TTC it's something to bare in mind. I'm not pregnant this month so it's all good but make sure you consider it fully if you are unsure if you are pregnant.

The side effects are starting to subside now so don't let this put you off the vaccine as a whole. Like I said everyone reacts differently and I tend to adverse reactions to things and have a lot of allergies to medication.

I'm getting my first dose on Sunday (HCP). The 2nd dose is booked for April - at present I will cancel if I get pregnant before then, but the advice may change by then! My overall understanding is safe when TTC, unknown when pregnant so depends on your risk with Covid (eg if you are clinically vulnerable, I'd get it)
