Offered Covid vaccine but trying to conceive

Hi

Been off the pill for almost 2 months and me and my partner decided we would TTC. I wouldn't say we're putting the most effort into it but I had to come off the pill for other reasons so we decided if it happens it happens!

I got offered the covid vaccine today but I'm on CD 14. I doubt I'm even pregnant because I've not seen my partner much through ovulation due to work but we DTD 2 days before my predicted ovulation.

I'm booked on for the vaccine in 2 days Confused I guess I'm worried in case I am pregnant this month. Anyone else been offered the vaccine?

I have been told by my doctors to avoid the vaccine if TTC within the next 3 months. I think it is because they don't know the effects on pregnant women/babies.

Personally, (and I'll do this if/when I get offered it) I would speak to your GP to see what they say as some high risk women still have it.

Speak to your GP for advice but the decision is yours. Are you high risk or a carer or anything? Only you know how beneficial recieveing the vaccine will be to you right now.

I have also been offered it, 4 days before my period is due, and I do keep thinking 'what if I'm pregnant'. However I am going to get it regardless as I'm an unpaid carer for my DS and I cant risk my caring responsibilities for a pregnancy I might not even have. If it wasnt for that though, I'd probably put it on hold as I'm not high risk.

If you are on instagram, have a look at the Royal College of Obs and Gyne @rcobsgyn they have recently posted that you don't need to avoid pregnancy etc. Lots of info on there and links to other places. Im sure it's on their website too if you aren't on Insta.

I was offered mine around CD 12. I decided to wait until AF arrived to ensure there was no pregnancy then I will book in for it. I'm currently 10dpo so will be able to book on Monday if AF arrives.

You have to do what feels right for you 😊

Thanks for the advice guys. Think I will call the GP today and see what they say. I don't think I'm necessarily high risk. I think it's because I recently had a blood clot.

I will also check them out on Instagram too - thanks for the advice!

I think it's just taken me by surprise because I wasn't expecting to be called until at least May.

I'll let everyone know what the GP says when I've spoken to them Smile

I'm a high risk job and TTC I'm booked in for my second vaccine In a couple of weeks and I'll still be TTC and still have it If I'm in the TWW

EmbarrassingMama · 05/03/2021 13:20

I would go for it if the Royal College of Obs and Gyne are saying it's fine. The alternative (I think) is waiting till you give birth, which could be a year away, if not more.

broom1389 · 05/03/2021 13:46

I've spoken to the GP and they advised that I have the first vaccine as like you guys have said, it could be ages until I conceive.

It's a shame that it's fallen in the middle of my cycle when it's too late to use protection and too early to do a pregnancy test.

They said if I do get pregnant after my first vaccine then I could just delay the second one.

I agree it's probably the best time to have it now rather than waiting because I might not conceive at all.

Thanks for all your advice guys, much appreciated Smile

Great news OP. I’m currently pregnant but v early, so will be waiting until at least October, which is frustrating!

Genevive123 · 07/03/2021 13:53

I'm TTC number one currently and I for sure won't be having the vaccine until I've had my first child but that's just personal preference everyone's got different theories and reasons why :) so completely up to you on what you think is best lovely x

AluckyEllie · 07/03/2021 13:59

I’m ttc and have had mine. I did some research on it and spoke to a gynae consultant at work. They basically said it wasn’t tested on pregnant women so it can’t be said it is 100% safe although the theory and research behind it says it will be 100% safe if that makes sense. Whatever people are happy with though, they’ll be offering the vaccine for ages so it’s not a now or never situation.

HopingForOurRainbowBaby · 07/03/2021 14:14

I too am TTC. I also had my first vaccine a couple of weeks ago. They asked me before they gave me it if I thought I might be Pregnant or if I was TTC told them I wasn't Pregnant but was trying. All they said to me was to not fall Pregnant for 3 weeks after the first or second jab.

Genevive123 · 07/03/2021 14:14

@AluckyEllie completely agree with this! If people want it they should have it if they don't they you don't need to :) as soon as my first baby is born I will get it for sure ! As you said they will be offering it for a while and will probably be a yearly vaccine anyway!! X

ChaBishkoot · 07/03/2021 14:16

I think there is some evidence that if you do get COVID the placenta stops functioning as well. I know at least two women in their 30s who ended up on ventilators in the latter half of their pregnancy and both babies had to be delivered prematurely. In light of the RCOG evidence this is not a risk I would take.

broom1389 · 07/03/2021 20:28

@EmbarrassingMama lovely news! So happy for you! SmileSmile

I had the jab in the end because like I said, I think we missed ovulation this month anyway. I spoke to a GP and they said I should be fine for TTC in the future. I guess the decision for everyone will be different because of their personal circumstances. I think for me, medically, it seemed right to get the vaccine now rather than risk it but can totally see why some people wouldn't.

Fingers crossed we can get back to some normality soon and things will be less complicated when TTC! X
