Running during tww

Obviously not while actually trying :)
I'm just after some advice, would you say it's ok to be running every day / other day while you are trying to get pregnant during the tww, or even if you got pregnant and were in the very early stages.
I know to some people this will sound like a stupid question so please don't come on a flame me, it's a genuine question and there is no answers on the internet, only caution against overdoing it while pregnant but doesn't say what stage.
Also, I've had it drilled into by family that doing too much strenuous stuff during pregnancy will lead to miscarriage. I have had a miscarriage myself and I always have a feeling like doing too much will somehow make the embryo less likely to stick, I know that may sound stupid, someone convince me otherwise please and tell me to go ahead and enjoy running again! AF has just arrived, I want to start this month but scared to.

Hey @teateaandcoffee - from what I understand it's completely fine to continue exercising as normal during the TWW and early pregnancy. What I have read is that you should potentially avoid starting new strenuous exercises. For example going from walks to intense HIIT most days of the week (which wouldn't be good for you in many other ways tbh). I think it's kind of a 'continue as you have' attitude.

Having said that, I think it's always a good option to ring your GP and ask for peace of mind!

Totally fine, doing too much strenuous stuff does not lead to miscarriage..

Like TTCAbroad said, it is only if you aren't used to it - i.e. if you have never run before and suddenly decide to run a marathon!

I have always run / done gym classes / outdoor swimming and competitive netball whilst TTC, during the TWW and late into pregnancy. With my son I played netball to 9 weeks and was in the gym when I was huge (about 7 months)!

I actually cut back (mainly because of lockdown) and conceived last year but had MMC.. don't think lack of exercise is anything to do with it at all, it is just one of those things, but goes to show!

Now 6 weeks again (fell 1st month TTC - very lucky), and didn't stop running (usually between 5-10k 3 times a week) at all - did 5K last night :) x

It’s new to you exercise that causes issue. I continued spinning until both of mine were born without issue, last went a couple days before birth & the night before.
In the later stages you can’t exercise lying on your back due to blood flow but other than that it’s just a Case of extra caution as your joints relax and if you aren’t feeling it to listen to your body and not run that day.

Ah thank you so much everyone that is really reassuring. Yes definitely not going to go from nothing to marathon, I did a 10k once, once was enough!
My plan was to do 2 weeks of running 2/3 times a week, about a mile at a gentle pace, then to do 1.5 miles every other day (I've found a nice well lit route, not much ambition to go further than that) and build my pace from there, maybe start going everyday, I'll see how I feel. It's short enough that me and partner can take it in turns after work.

We did start up again last year and my time was really coming down on the 1.5miles but wimped out when it was snowing, then started panicking about ttc!
Reading that back it really doesn't sound intensive at all, and I'm 36 so my body won't tolerate being over exerted without a months notice Grin
@Amz6219 Congratulations, that's lovely, and well done on 5k, go you!

Agree with PP and good luck with the training.

I found out I was pregnant with my first at 14 dpo the evening after racing a half marathon! I was 37. Had a negative test that morning so went all out on lots of ibuprofen and paracetamol right after the race 😂

teateaandcoffee · 24/02/2021 19:38

@peanutbutterandfluff oh bet that was a bit of a shock! Grin good to hear ladies who have done it while running, definitely given me kick up the backside now and no excuses Grin
