Eating habits when trying

Soo When your pregnant there are certain foods you cannot eat, cut down on caffeine and no alcohol.

What’s everyone plan, do you stick to this from the minute you start trying or want to you find out?

It seems sensible to stick as never know when could fall, but at same time should you change your life week in week out with the small chance you might be pregnant.

What is everyone’s view ?

Just confused as what is the right done thing.

I didn’t change anything until positive test, I think it’s better to be relaxed than stressing about what you eat and drink personally, especially as it could be months... only thing that I did was cut back on alcohol but only because there’s nowhere to go!! 🙈

I do have a generally healthy diet and only have 3 cups of tea a day anyway so I just carried on as normal x

There's very little you can't eat even when pregnant. I didn't give up drinking but didn't go overboard. I didn't cut caffeine either before I got pregnant but then I don't drink lots of caffeinated drinks anyway.

Take folic acid and vitamin d

I'm carrying on as normal pretty much - just cut down on caffeine a bit as I used to drink way more than the recommended when TTC.

I'm 15 cycles in so would have gone bananas if I had to follow all the pregnancy guidance over that long a period.

Plus a lot of the NHS guidance is super duper cautious and not even followed uniformly across Europe so I think I'll be taking it with a pinch of salt even once pregnant.

Hi all,

Thank you for your comments.

That is a relief to know! I’m glad I’m on the same track, I think sticking to it for a long time while trying would make it even more impossible for it to not be only thing constantly think about!

Anyone else find they just keep thinking about it? Or will that wear off after got used to the idea of trying?

Ha well I'm still thinking about it all the time so.... Grin

DoveGreylove · 22/02/2021 13:44

It's all I think about. When each period comes I feel sad but then think YES right another cycle let's do this.

Definitely think you need to live normally otherwise you'd lose your mind not allowing yourself to eat and drink things you love.

Only things you will really need to stop / cut back on are caffeine, alcohol, rare meat, certain cheeses....

Lou2021 · 22/02/2021 13:49

Sounds like I’m going to have to get used to thinking about it. Lockdown does not help with getting on with normal life. Anyone had the Covid vaccine whilst trying?

Thanks for the tips x

I've been really lucky and fallen quickly 3 times, but even still it's ALL I could think about! That's why I think if I had to also throw in a change to diet / drinks it would just send me mad! x

@Lou2021 similar to the other posters I've carried on as normal mostly although I'm generally not too unhealthy. I reduce caffeine and alcohol but don't cut them completely. You could always try cutting them for the first couple of months trying like I did but after a couple of months of it feels unnecessary. 14 cycles in and still thinking about TTC all the time, impossible not to really especially in lockdown when you are at home most of the time!
