Piles (embarrassing!)

Could anyone tell me what you can take for piles in pregnancy? I’m ringing the doctor tomorrow but just wondered if anyone had spoken to GP or a midwife about the same issue and what they were told to use?

They will prescribe you some cream. It might help. It might not.

firesidetartan · 15/02/2021 18:58

I would just go to the chemist tbh.

katiemumma20 · 15/02/2021 20:01

Anyone else? Thanks for the replies so far I’m just interested to know what others have been prescribed before!

I've got MW appointment tomorrow, will be asking about it because they've gone really bad Sad

katiemumma20 · 15/02/2021 21:09

@Thack let me know what yours says! I’ll be trying to get a gp appointment tomorrow as I don’t have a midwife appointment for a few weeks

Chemist or Tesco. Anusol - suppositories and/or cream.

firesidetartan · 15/02/2021 21:16

You don't need a GP appointment. Go to the chemist.

katiemumma20 · 15/02/2021 21:18

@MiddlesexGirl is anusol definitely safe i pregnancy? Conflicting advice online.

You really don't need to discuss piles with your GP unless they've become serious.

Use Anusol cream / suppositories as suggested up thread.

Good luck!

I'm sure I used germaloid cream in pregnancy- I can't remember as didn't suffer as bad pregnant as I do now.

HandlebarLadyTash · 15/02/2021 21:57

Suppositorys & cream, & moist loo paper. Buy it all...piles are the worst

Incrediblytired · 16/02/2021 07:33

They gave me anusol in pregnancy. They wouldn’t prescribe anything containing lidocaine until after the baby was born. Sadly the stuff with the lidocaine is the best.

You can speak to a pharmacist but they will inevitably panic and the concept of recommending anything to a pregnant woman and tell you to go to the GP.

Just speak to a GP and they’ll be pleased it’s a easy query.

Thack · 16/02/2021 19:57

Sorry @katiemumma20 I had a few things to go through with the MW and completely forgot to ask about this!
How have you got on?

katiemumma20 · 16/02/2021 20:14

@Thack so the GP gave me lactulose and a suppository called proctosedyl. I’ve taken the lactulose but feel really nervous about the proctosedyl as I’m worried it might hard baby so I haven’t yet. I’ve drunk so much water and eaten so much fruit and veg yesterday and today and had a few sitz baths I’m really hoping to see if I can get away without using it. I’m not sure whether it would be safer just to use anusol, wish I’d asked!

@katiemumma20 I'm glad they have given you something to start off with, hope it all works!
Thanks for the update Smile
