I’m towards end of 2ww and have had a migraine type headache for most of the last week. Boots paracetamol + codeine tablets are having no impact at all :-( I’m really struggling but didn’t want to risk ibuprofen.
(I usually take nurofen especially for period pain)

Triptans, but they don't make you feel particularly well.

Snowymcsnowsony · 10/02/2021 13:22

Migraine sufferer 30 +years here.
My newly found miracle is to lie in bed with a first aid ice pack on my head!! You crush it to activate it and is full of ice crystals.. (? !) Moulds to your head!! Oh my days it was bliss! I take nasal sprays on prescription only which do work but the ice pack was truly amazing!

My DD suffered for years.....now under neurology.....has 3 monthly Botox..... it’s worked a treat

TheViewOutsideMyWindow · 10/02/2021 13:32

Triptans. You'd need a GP apt. This website is useful and is what your GP is likely to refer to: www.medicinesinpregnancy.org/bumps/monographs/USE-OF-TRIPTANS-IN-PREGNANCY/

Kitkat151 · 10/02/2021 13:41

TripTans and are great if they work... definately try them.....they didn’t work for my DD and she tried the tablets the nasal sprays and the self injections....l hope you find something that gives you relief...migraine is so debilitating

I've suffered with migraines for years. I've always used the kool n soothe patches, which help. But I've also recently started sleeping on a cooling gel pillow. Kinda like what dogs sleep on when it's hot haha. Both things really help me xxx

kennetrose · 10/02/2021 13:44

I've been taking 500mg of magnesium oxide supplements since October and have definitely noticed a decrease in the number of migraines I get.

I take Migraleve when I get one now. It's not as good as ibuprofen though. I also use 4head which can sometimes stave off a milder one. Sadly the only truly effective treatment is to avoid my triggers, which is easier said than done! I'm still working from home and think I'd struggle a lot more without ibuprofen if I weren't.

Thank you everyone 😊

I really missed ibuprofen when I was pregnant but I think if I'd had a migraine before my third trimester I'd have taken a couple as they are the only thing that work for me- I don't get them often enough to have proper migraine meds.

I'm not for one minute saying hey take them, no problem, but if you know they will get rid of a migraine you've had for several days I would think the benefit to you (rest, being able to eat properly, exercise etc) would outweigh the risk so early on.

JobRetentionScheme · 10/02/2021 22:27

Migraleave stops the sickness and makes me sleep ... which helps enormously.

Hoppyfrog · 10/02/2021 22:28

The only thing that works for me is Syndol. Migraleave, ibuprofen, aspirin, paracetamol don't help at all for me when it's a migraine.

RobinRose · 10/02/2021 23:01

Long time migraine suffere here! Triptans are great but not advised to take them if you are pregnant or ttc. A cold ice pack sometimes works along with paracetamol with caffeine. Drink plenty of water. Hope your migraine goes soon!

FlamingGreatGalaahs · 11/02/2021 07:56

Ginger is supposed to be great.
Check out Organic Burst products. Worth a try?

LadyBrienne · 11/02/2021 08:05

Get a bucket of water - put ice in the water - get a hot pack ( the sort you microwave with grain/beads inside) - get a eye mask - sit in comfy chair - put heat pack around neck - put feet in bucket - put eye mask on - lean back in chair - stay like that for as long as you can

DialSquare · 11/02/2021 08:24

@Hoppyfrog

The only thing that works for me is Syndol. Migraleave, ibuprofen, aspirin, paracetamol don't help at all for me when it's a migraine.
Same for me too. Especially since they brought back the original formulation. I make sure I never run out.
mdh2020 · 11/02/2021 08:41

Sumatriptan is the only thing that remotely works. Migraleve really slows you down. However my GP always said you shouldn’t fight a migraine and try to carry on - you should go to bed if you can.

Mimosa1 · 11/02/2021 11:23

Hi,
I'm not a doctor so please take this with a heaping of salt, but I remember being told that a persistent headache when pregnant can be a sign of pre-emclampsia so if you don't start to feel better soon, it might be worth having it checked out.

ThenCatoJumpedOut · 11/02/2021 11:26

I always just go to bed, with eye mask on

If I’ve not reached vomiting stage yet I’ll force a few Cream crackers down first

Mine are triggered by too low blood sugar though, so if that’s not a trigger for you skip the cream cracker bit Grin

Migraines are a bitch, what triggers yours?

ThenCatoJumpedOut · 11/02/2021 11:27

I take Zappain or similar (think it has codeine)

Heyha · 11/02/2021 12:21

Fandangoes · 11/02/2021 12:24
