Bleeding after starting folic acid

Hi everyone I'm just wondering if anyone can help

I dont have periods or ovulate

I'm undergoing fertility treatment but can't get an appointment with my gynacolgist for another 4 weeks due to covid.

My gp advised me to take folic acid but since taking this I've been bleeding, period like cramps, feeling nausea and have sore boobs. I don't have periods so this is very unusual for me.

Should I stop taking folic acid or it it good I'm bleeding?

The bleeding has been red and brown. It can be heavy and other days its light.

I'm just really confused on what to do 🥺

Thank you ❤

Any supplement or drug causing side effect should be interrupted and you should contact your GP.
in case of your folic acid, if the supplement of the synthetic form is not right for you, have a diet rich in folate food. It is also way safer . Here is a list of food which should cover your folate needs : Foods that are naturally high in folate include leafy vegetables (such as spinach, broccoli, and lettuce), okra, asparagus, fruits (such as bananas, melons, and lemons) beans, yeast, mushrooms, meat (such as beef liver and kidney), orange juice, and tomato juice..

It might be the supplement batch, could be an interaction with other medication you are taking, you are maybe taking a too high dosage, or it might be something else.
Stop taking it and see if your symptoms stop.

I'm currently not on any other medication as waiting to see my gynacolgist for my next step.

I will try your advice and see what happens.

Thank you x

If you make a free account on cronometer.com - a nutritional analysis website - you can check if you reach and even go beyond your folate needs.
I have inserted an example for you and by eating a lettuce at lunch and some asparagus and spinach at dinner your needs are fully covered.
You will find it on the table on the right just before the vitamin A.

Getting your folate from food and not the synthetic form is fat more healthier, but of course means you should eat fresh vegetables. This 2 minute video explains the why nutritionfacts.org/video/can-folic-acid-be-harmful/

The website has quite a lot of videos and studies that touch the topic of infertility. nutritionfacts.org/?s=infertility&is_v=1 maybe you can watch some and consider which food to increase
