Ttc or have covid jab??

We really want another baby. I put it off last year due to covid so really want to try this year. Ideally we'll start ttc this month.

But, the fact I'll be giving up my chance to be vaccinated worries me. I have secondary school age children and am 40 next year.

I'm not sure what to do.

@Helenj1977 Hi didn't want to read and run. I'm in pretty much in a similar position. I'm torn whether to get the vaccine or not. I've just turned 41 and type 1 diabetic. We've being TTC for 2 years now and we're due to start IVF in the summer. So until then we'll keep trying naturally. Because of my age and don't really want to be taking 3 months off TTC while I wait for the 'safe period' to be over but at the same time with my diabetes I don't wanna not have the protection of the vaccine. I asked my GP what I should do and all I got was a link to a website to read, so no clear advice really Confused Anyway, I'm currently not working at the moment so while I'm still in lockdown I'll probably hold off on getting it unless I get a clear thumbs up from my GP that I should have it.

As far as I know there no known reason you can't TTC having had the vaccine. I'm pregnant and will have it when offered

I think they've changed the guidance now so you can have it with medical advice. My employer (NHS) is still advising against TTC at the same time but it's likely that this is over cautious.

I'm holding off for now but will reassess if and when I get pregnant.

Thanks all. I've googled it and it's still advising against having it unless your vunerable.

I guess if we do conceive we'll have to carry on not mixing much x

I know several non-vulnerable pregnant women who have had the jab after doing their own research and speaking to their GP about it.

I suppose it depends if you're happy to postpone further until the whole general population is vaccinated

organised5 · 04/02/2021 19:42

Sorry hit post too soon! That's assuming you aren't in any of the more vulnerable groups against the main bulk of the population.

Personally I would TTC now but definitely do lots of research and then only you can make the decision of what you're comfortable with xx

The JCVI state that ‘Those who are trying to become pregnant do not need to avoid pregnancy after vaccination’. www.rcog.org.uk/en/news/updated-advice-on-covid-19-vaccination-in-pregnancy-and-women-who-are-breastfeeding/

I did A LOT of research on it and I had the vaccine at the start of the week and discussed it with the nurse also. She said it was obviously my choice but any immunity I have may also be passed to the eventual baby so that’s good. I think the risks that ‘MAY’ be there but they don’t know for sure as there’s not been much testing don’t out weigh the very real risks of getting Covid when pregnant or not. I don’t want to be freaked out for 9 months about Covid and not seeing anyone when we are eventually free. If I become pg before my second dose than I’ll talk to my gp but I’ll have 90% immunity by then anyway.

Helenj1977 · 05/02/2021 08:50

I would definitely accept the first jab if I wasn't pregnant. Using the calculator, I won't get that until May at the earliest! By which time I would hopefully be pg. (Obviously if not then fine)

I didn’t even realise this was a thing!
I was offered it at work at the start of Jan and jumped straight in!

It’s a very personal decision but for me I guess the risk from vaccination is far lower than any risk of being poorly from natural infection (I work in a high risk area)

Totally worth looking into.

Keep in mind that the jab doesn't stop you contracting or passing COVID on.
