Okay, I know that the first thing everyone is going to say is TAKE A TEST YOU SILLY SOD, or GO SEE YOUR DOCTOR YOU DONUT. However, lemme explain...

We have been TTC since July 2019. We have one son who is 7yo. I had the coil for several years, then had that removed and went on the pill (I came off the pill in July 2019). Since I’ve come off any contraception my periods have been irregular. I wish I could attach a pic of my cycle graph but never mind, I vary anywhere between 28 and 33 day cycles so I’m used to being a few days late.

I am currently on day 40 of my cycle, my period was predicated to start 8 days ago but my period app says I’m 6 days late so who knows. What I do know tho, is that my boobs are massive and sore, I haven’t had any signs of PMS (they’re obvious), my discharge has been super watery (the last time I had that was when I was pregnant with my son, I needed to wear a pad most days) and I keep getting lower back ache. Three BFN’s!!!! Two clear blue tests on day 34 and 36 and one sainsburys test today, day 40.

I’m not pregnant am I? I’m just so desperate to be that my body is tricking me... surely!!

I have been to the doctors and the blood tests have come back fine fertility-wise. My other half is waiting for an appointment at the fertility clinic.

Any advice would be truly truly appreciated!!! 17 months of BFN’s are wearing me down!

Hey! Sorry you’re going through this, it’s hard enough ttc without your cycles playing tricks as well. It may be a cycle where you didn’t ovulate. If you are getting negatives on a test you cannot be pregnant as you aren’t producing HCG. Do you have any way of knowing if you ovulated this cycle?

Also just another thing to maybe check - do you have pcos? I do and if I wasn’t on metformin I’d be having irregular cycles. Because of the metformin they’re like clockwork. Might be worth looking into pcos symptoms just in case, as it can be treated xxx

Hello @Cafeaulait27

Thank you sooo much for your response. I thought as much re: being pregnant! I have no idea if I ovulated as I don’t use tests (I bought some this morning tho). I usually just go by my period app predications for ovulation and do the deed as much as we can around then. Although we are DTD regularly the rest of the month too.

Weirdly, I just looked up the symptoms of PCOS and they sounded pretty accurate but I had blood tests done a few months ago and they all came back fine, I assume they would’ve been looking at the hormone levels there but I might give them a call anyway and see if they can provide some more info. I also went for a laparoscopy because in 2018 for suspected endo (which ended up being IBS Blush) so I’d like to think they would’ve picked up on anything unusual then. I suppose things could have changed between then and now though!

Will deffo try the tests this months and try not to think about it too much!!

Thank you again for advice!! Xx

@Chloeb93 glad it was helpful 🙂 I don’t do ovulation tests either, seems like too much of a faff to me.

With pcos, if you have any of the physical symptoms and irregular periods it’s worth speaking to your gp about getting checked. Agree with you that if you had cysts on your ovaries you would think they would tell you, but you never know, if they were looking for endo they may not have looked for cysts.

You only need 2 of the 3 symptoms to have pcos, which are excessive androgens in your blood which causes things like excessive hair, being overweight, acne, irregular periods and cysts on your ovaries. Weirdly some women with the syndrome don’t have any cysts.

You may find that you have to really push to get diagnosed, and for me I found even after a diagnosis I had to see a private endocrinologist to get metformin. But it was the best £200 I ever spent! My gp doesn’t mind that I’m on it and I just get repeat prescriptions now so it’s super easy. The metformin sorts out your insulin resistance if you have it, which in turn gets your cycles regular.

Let us know what happens 🙂
