TTC with Letrozole

Hi, first time poster here! I’m looking for some success stories with Letrozole.
Bit of background - I’m 34 and have PCOS. I do not have periods/bleed unless on the pill or induced by Norethisterone etc. We have been ttc for a year. I’ve had alot of testing done - blood work, scans, HSG etc etc. Just this year I’ve been put on Metformin (I should be taking 1500mg but I am only taking 500mg at the moment due to bad side effects, with the aim to gradually increase the dosage). I’ve just taken Provera to induce a bleed and then will start Letrozole 5mg on days 2 to 6.
We are quite excited to be moving on with our journey, so just looking for anyone else currently going through or has gone through similar...
Thanks in advance 🙂

Hey!
I have a pretty similar story to yours.

I’m starting my second round of letrozole in the next few weeks.
The first round (2.5mg) didn’t seem to induce ovulation, which I am super disappointed about. But they’ve upped my letrozole dose, so I’ll give that a try.

I take inositol. I’m not sure if metformin is something I should be considering?

I have PCOS for sure. Letrozole is ok, the main side effect I get is extreme tiredness. So I’ll take it at night instead of the morning, like I did last time.

How’s your experience so far?

Hey 🙂 it’s so good to hear from someone going through similar.
It seems to be a very long and tiring journey. We have tried years ago with no luck (although we didn’t have any help with medication etc) so hopefully this is our year.
I am still waiting for my bleed after Provera, I’ve had light spotting since last night but waiting for full flow. Am I right in thinking we count Day 1 as full flow?
I was going to try Inositol and I was told to hold off on that because she wanted to try this route. She said Metformin can help Letrozole work better, as some people are resistant to it.
With your pcos, do you get any periods at all?
Have you been upped to 5mg of Letrozole? I’m guessing I’ve started on a higher dosage due to lack of periods.

I take inositol, I was at the start of a PCOS investigation and fell pregnant without intervention but unfortunately lost our DS2 at 21+4.

I do have cycles but they're long 40+ days, and rarely ovulate. When my next CD1 arrives I'm getting blood drawn (last had this done 12 months ago).

I've been doing some research into letrozole and soy isoflavones.

Just joining in to say hello and good luck

So sorry for your loss. It’s terrible and you were so far along.
Were you advised to start Inositol? I was confused when I was told to hold off on that but wasn’t sure if it’s because I’m on Metformin?
I can relate with the research, I feel like it’s never ending trying to figure things out.
Thank you and good luck to you. Will they refer you for more testing?

My last cycle was over 200 days without a period. Prior to 2019 they HAD been regular. I think it’s my clinics policy to increase letrozole a little at a time.

Yes, your first full day of flow is Day 1.

Thank you 💞

When I initially spoke to the fertility clinic last year I'd already been taking inositol and they made approving noises about that. I think that metformin and inositol are similar/do similar things so not sure if they're worth taking at the same time.

My big issue is the anovulation, I literally got one positive OPK last year and that was the cycle I fell pregnant. I have just lost 3stone though and got two blazing positive OPKs on CD 22 but I'm not certain whether I actually ovulated or of it's a precursor to AF. 🥴

I've got bloods planned for the start of my next cycle and then a scan after that, because I've fallen pregnant naturally twice it's just the lack of ovulation which impedes us. The doctor reckons it'll hopefully just be a case of forcing ovulation. I know I'd refuse clomid as it had links to spina bifida and that was why we lost DS2.

What about you?

TTCwithPCOS · 03/02/2021 09:05

That’s good you were taking inositol already. I’m hoping they are similar although I feel inositol would be easier on the stomach.
Well done with losing 3 stone. Hopefully they will start you on Letrozole. Have you been referred through to fertility for the bloods? I’ve heard that about Clomid as well so quite glad to be on Letrozole.
I’m on my my first cycle of Letrozole, second day out of five of taking 5mg. I don’t have any periods at all so tracking any kind of cycle is near enough impossible without inducing a bleed etc. Also I‘ve got a healthy BMI and generally have a healthy lifestyle so at a loss for what additional things I could be doing.
