Early positive then followed by period?

How common is this? I'm not due until midweek but curiosity got the better of me and I took a digital test. It said 1-2 weeks pregnant. Is there still a chance I might start my period at the normal time seen as it's so early? I've read this is common?

Well there is no such thing as 1-2 weeks pregnant as that would be before conception. Even now it’s meaningless, as if an egg had been fertilised, that doesn’t mean it will implant and a pregnancy become established.

What’s the point in these early tests? Most fertilised eggs don’t implant.

These early positives have no meaning at all

Seems a strange response @Rowenasemolina.

The tests count from implantation, you need to add a few weeks on to know how pregnant you are on a cycle basis (or you know, just count from last period).

I'd still test again OP, but mainly because I don't trust the digitals - I once got a positive on one which was entirely false (had a beta the next day which was so negative it couldn't have even been a chemical), so I'd suggest confirming with another test (FRER maybe?).

I'm not sure I'd take such a negative view as above - I would be cautiously optimistic in your position, and I'd be planning on keeping myself calm, testing again in a few days and hoping for the best. A positive pregnancy test usually means just that - but sometimes women go on to have a chemical pregnancy at around/just after the time of AF. But you still had a fertilised egg. Personally, I'd rather know that, and lots of women do test early. Fingers crossed for you Daffodil

I think the trend for very early testing is going to pick up a lot of chemical pregnancies and embyos that dont implant. We know that at least 2 in 5 pregnancies end in miscarriage, extremely early testing is going to pick up more. I am not sure it is good for mental health tbh.

I completely agree to be honest. I wish I hadn't taken the test now but with them always advertising 5 days early etc it temps you - which I suppose is their marketing ploy!

I always test early OP. The only time I didn't was this most recent pregnancy and I was sure we didn't catch the right days that month. This is my 7th pregnancy, 4th baby. I haven't had a chemical pregnancy but they are of course possible. If I get an early positive my pregnancies continue to progress beyond my AF date. I've always been on egg shells until that date passes and then I start to feel more confident about the test results! My three losses have been 9,11&10 weeks so fairly far into the first trimester. I wouldn't say you are any more at risk of a chemical than anything else happening atm.

A PP stated it's not possible to be 1-2 weeks pregnant, that is incorrect in the sense that the tests work from date of implantation. You add 2 weeks to the estimate given on the test (as per the instructions which come with the test) therefore you are in fact 3-4 weeks, which is appropriate given when you have tested. Good luck!

Congratulations OP! Not sure why the trend of this thread is so negative?
You have your BFP, and no reason at all to think that it will end in a chemical. Of course it can happen, but chances are it won’t. Best of luck for a happy and healthy pregnancy x
(Also if you are due mid week it’s not that early to test and makes sense that the digital would say 1-2 weeks)
X

It’s silly to say not reason at all to think it will end in a chemical’ and then chances are it won’t’.

That’s just poor understanding of biology.

Most conceptions don’t implant. That’s why you are not ‘pregnant’ until it is implanted and established. Before that it is only ‘might still get pregnant this month’

OP. I hope it works out for you. But I don’t agree with making these early tests available. . It only sets people up for a lot of distress

Bizawit · 25/01/2021 18:35

@Rowenasemolina It has already implanted- hence the positive test. If it hadn’t implanted the test wouldn’t be positive.

I think you are confused.

Of course the pregnancy could end up chemical (very early miscarriage), but the probability is that it won’t, especially with a positive on a digital this early.
