Hello, I'm trying to work my cycles out. I've got 2 period apps which help me see when I should be fertile but I don't know if they actually are accurate? I had AF from 5th jan-8th jan and that's a normal period cycle for me.

My app tells me I'll be fertile from the 15th jan-20th jan. with ovulation being 20th jan

Was just woundering if that sounds about right lol

The length of your period isn’t that important. Your cycle length is day 1 of your period to day 1 of the next. It’s usually somewhere around 21 to 35 days.

Generally ovulation will take place around 14 days before the first day of your next period but this is variable. So, for an example, if your cycle length is 30 days then you could expect to ovulate on day 16. However, because this day can be variable, if you are trying to conceive it is usually advised to have regular sex in the week running up to your expected ovulation day, and the day or two after.

From reading your title, I was going to suggest using an app, but you do already! I don't actually track my ovulation, just my cycles. The app I use works out ovulation based on two weeks before your next period. It's only based on an average from the last six months of data though.

If you want to be more accurate, I guess use ovulation kits. Personally, I found all of that too much hard work. DH I just had sex 3 times a week for six weeks. Worked both times.

The low tech method is definitely just to have sex at least every 2nd day when you arent bleeding. That'll do it!

Apps are useful, but the most useful thing is to listen to your body. I know I'm fertile when my cervical mucus is egg white and I'm super horny. You can also check your cervical height but I've never done this. This a good book to check out. Flo reckoned I was due to ovulate on the 19th. I got my peak on ovulation strips on the 15th.

I'd suggest using ovulation predictor stripe, they really help. I learned that my ovulation is always 14 days before my period but as I have pcos when I ovulate is variable but I can only fall pregnant if I ovulate on day 18 (happened x5). It can tell you a lot about your body

The apps are just guessing :) They won't know when you ovulate or how long your luteal phase is (that's the time between your ovulation and period) so it's all guesswork unless you do ovulation tests and/or track your temperature.

How long are your cycles? If they're around the 28 day mark then to be on the safe side you should do the deed every 2 days from days 10 to 20.
