Fibroids and conception

Hi Ladies

I've had a call with my doctor today and he's told me I have large fibroid measuring 5cm and 2 fibroids about 3cms

He said as I have heavy periods with these and they make me anaemic they should be removed as they really effect my life 2 days a month.

So he's booking me in with a Gyno - now my concern is if they remove them will it effect my chances of getting pregnant? He said the reason we probably haven't conceived for over 4 years although we have been trying is probably a small factor is due to the changing the shape of my womb.

Has anyone had fibroids removed and had a successful conception - here's looking for positive news but also anyone it's effected too.

Thank you so much x

Hi there, I have had a fibroid and a polyp removed on two separate occasions. They knew that I hadnt had kids and wanted to start a family so they made sure to do a procedure to preserve my fertility. Basically they did something called transcervical resection which is a bit like a hysteroscopy but the basically burn away the nasty bits. I was 'lucky' (although had horrific symptoms and was very ill) because all of mine were in the cavity of the uterus and so easy to get to from the inside. Since then I've had no problems and a scan a couple of months ago confirmed my lining was fine. I have been TTC for 6 months but I dont think the op has affected things and at the time they said I should be able to conceive fine. I would highly recommend getting it sorted if you can as it improved my quality of live indefinitely! At the time I would have taken a hysterectomy if they had told me it was the only way, so you don't want to let them get any worse. Best of luck!

@SEpoppet thank you for replying - I haven't heard of this procedure but just read up on it and seems like a good option as we obviously want more kiddies.

Fingers crossed my appointment comes through over the next few weeks and I can meet up with the Gyno 😊

I had a 1.5kg fibroid removed. It was open surgery as opposed to laparoscopic and I had to wait 12 months after surgery to ttc. When we did start, I used OPKs and conceived on my first cycle. So that can hopefully reassure you although obviously everyone’s circumstances will be different, and so the best person to speak to the gynae once they’ve had a chance to review your scans etc.

Hi,

I've been looking at various threads in regards to Fibroids (I currently have 2 small ones and one medium sized - size of a lime)

What i find alarming is that no one discusses how to shrink the fibroids. My Dr gave me three options, operate, medicate or coil. I said hell no to all three.

Firstly, operation is not something I would consider, secondly, I don't want anything to do with medication as the fibroids can still grow back and thirdly, after finding my fibroids had grown following a routine scan, I noticed my Mirena coil had moved which was contributing to the excessive bleeding and clot I was having. My coil has now been removed my coil and I won't be putting it back.

I have been doing extensive research on fibroids and the growth is mainly down to high estrogen. I have checked all the foods that have high estrogen (there are loads!) and I am now just eating certain vegetables, fruits and fish -Salmon caught from the ocean (not farmed) and saltfish. I was previously a lover of meat and chicken. Pasta, rice and wheat also had to go. I just basically eat food that agrees with my blood type and I eliminate foods on the list that is high in estrogen.

I am also doing lots of cardio- walking and jogging. We can avoid ops, medication etc, if we maintain a good diet and exercise.

I know due to the growth of some fibroids, operation may be necessary, however, I would suggest people try and look into foods they are consuming that contains high level of estrogen.

I'm nearing menopause so once that happens, the fibroids will naturally shrink.

I will send an update in a five to six months with results as I will be requesting another scan to check whether the fibroids have shrunk, remained the same size or have grown.

Xx
