Hi lovelies, have been lurking for a while. My husband and I have been TTC since February ( so I know not long in grand scheme of things compared to some). I had been on the Depo injection for a few years, it was due to run out in Feb, we decided no more contraception and have been trying since then. But since then I have only had one period which was in november. I have no way of tracking as i am not having cycles. For the past 2 weeks i have has sickness, constant nausea, period type pain, and unable to eat much. I have done 2 tests with FMU and both negative. My logic is telling me i cant be pg as if having symptoms it would be strong enough to show on test. Im beginning to think its my mind playing tricks. Has anyone experienced similar? Just feel down over it all, we are mid 30's and fear we have left it too late x

Hey @CakeWarrior, no words of wisdom really but didn't want to read and run. Isn't it true that Depo can take a really long time to get out of your system? Have you read up on it/spoken to your GP? The only other thing would be to do OPKs every day until you get a positive. I think to have pregnancy symptoms you have to be about 3 weeks to a month pregnant by which point you would probably be getting a positive...however it does sound hormonal so perhaps could be a sign that things are getting back to normal? As you are coming up to a year your GP may refer you for tests if you speak to them. Good luck!

Thankyou so much for the kind reply. I have spoken to Gp who said that it usually takes upto 6 months for depo to leave system, but i have been reading some women on here have taken a very long time to get to normal again. Thanks for the opk suggestion, i think i will give that a try x

Hey @CakeWarrior, hope you’re doing ok.
I was on the depo injection for 8 years myself which ‘ran out’ in March 2020 and as you can probably tell from my name, I’m not very patiently trying to track my ovulation lol.

I had my first ‘withdrawal bleed’ about 5 weeks after and my first ‘proper’ period in August 2020. My cycle is much longer now then pre-depo days (averaging 42 day cycle) so only had 4 periods from August-December - but grateful something is happening I suppose.

I spoke with my GP recently who said the depo can be one of the longest contraceptions to leave the body but every case has been so different.

She also said most GP’s are now supposed to advise it can take 18 months to conceive after coming off the injection but you can request for some tests once you reach the 1 year mark. I’ve also seen a few people say they went on the pill for a few months which helped kick start their periods and/or got their cycles regulated again so could be another option for you!

Hope you’re feeling a bit better today Daffodil
