Ttc and cv vaccination

Sorry if this has already been done to death but what are your views on this?

Wait for vaccination then ttc so effectively delay ttc? Or just go for it and miss out on the vacc?

Not enough evidence as obviously it's not tested on pregnant women.

Personally I wouldn't have it. It's your choice thou.

Hope all goes well with TTC.

Worldbarbie · 16/01/2021 15:59

I wouldn’t have the vax yet. I’m sure you can have it at a later date. More research probably would have been done by then.

jollyunicorn83 · 16/01/2021 16:00

Sad I really want the vac..and another baby! Wah! Sad

Thank you for your replies though Smile

There was a good thread on this the other day with some medics on it: Covid Vaccine - NHS? www.mumsnet.com/Talk/conception/4130868-covid-vaccine-nhs

yawnsvillex · 16/01/2021 16:02

Have it if you really want it. It's your choice.

bumpyknuckles · 16/01/2021 16:04

Btw I'm ttc at the moment. I waited for my period to start, then had the jab. I felt the risk of catching covid while pregnant was greater than the risk having the vaccine before getting pregnant. I probably wouldn't have it if I actually was pregnant tho, unless I worked with covid patients on a daily basis (which I don't - I'm NHS frontline, but not with covid patients).

jollyunicorn83 · 16/01/2021 16:10

Thanks @bumpyknuckles for that thread.

I'm not going to be offered it anytime soon so will involve a wait either way. It's just whether I wait to have the vacc and then ttc. Probably wouldn't have it during pregnancy Confused I'm not good with covid related decisions

Sorry but getting more of the population vaccinated and building community immunity is far more important than you wanting a child Confused

bumpyknuckles · 16/01/2021 16:16

I've been ttc for a few months. Decided to keep trying and have the jab if I wasn't pregnant when offered it. I wouldn't have put off ttc to wait for the vaccine, but then I'm nearly 40.

We'll carry on ttc now I've had the jab - if I'm pregnant by the time of the second jab, I won't have it. Even one dose gives you some protection tho, so it still seems worth it to me.

Questioning this myself. Had to have a TFMR last year at 21 weeks, and had lots of medical complications in the months that followed.

We're looking at TTC again March/April time, and whilst I'm unlikely to be offered the jab until later on in the year, I'm dubious to have it...

My mindset, rightly or wrongly, is after so many issues last time (foetal anomaly, total fluke) I'm scared to do anything that may run the risk of causing problems this time round. Cant go through that again.

It's a tough one. I think it's dependent on personal circumstances and your willingness to wait, tbh.

jollyunicorn83 · 16/01/2021 16:52

I'm so sorry for your loss @SlipperTripper. I can definitely understand you wanting to be cautious Thanks

I was planning to TTC in January but I'm having the vaccine on Tuesday as I'm patient facing NHS (although not with COVID patients)

I've decided I will TTC in April after my second dose as it's not a huge delay however if I wasn't likely to get the vaccine til much later this year then I would have gone ahead now

jollyunicorn83 · 16/01/2021 19:18

@bumpyknuckles which one did you have? Or did you not mind?

Thank you for this. I'm glad you've had yours and there is a plan. Are you on a 12 week gap for the second jab?

bumpyknuckles · 16/01/2021 19:34

@jollyunicorn83 I had the Pfizer one, but I would've had whatever they offered!

polkadotpixie · 16/01/2021 19:35

@jollyunicorn83 I actually have 10 weeks between my 1st and 2nd jabs, my 2nd one is on 30th March. I'm disappointed to have to wait until April after planning for January but I'm trying to use the time positively to get my body as ready as possible (prenatals, losing a bit of weight etc)

Eeeekim40thisyear · 16/01/2021 19:44

I'm bothered by this too as planning on ttc soon but am a frontline worker. The advice it to not ttc within 3 months of the vaccine. Does anyone know if that would be after the 2nd dose too?

Haiyaa · 16/01/2021 20:09

The original advice was 3 months following the first dose of Pfizer vaccine, i.e. jab, 28 days, 2nd jab then 2 months but they have decided to extend the interval so following that guidance you would be looking at 2 months following your 2nd vaccine. The guidance has changed however and Royal College of Obstetricians advice is that you can continue to ttc as normal, but not to have 2nd dose if you fall pregnant in between iyswim?

I’ve been pondering it myself as due my vac imminently but I have just recovered from covid so presumably I have some of my own antibodies. I won’t be putting it off any longer though as we have already waited a year with the pandemic and I’m not waiting any longer.

I was initially a bit hesitant despite being a pharmacist, but having read into it a bit more and heard from several other doctors/pharmacists/nurses in the same position I think I will get vaccinated with at least one dose and carry on ttc as normal. If I’m not pregnant by the time second dose rolls around I shall have that too.

bumpyknuckles · 16/01/2021 20:09

@Eeeekim40thisyear they've recently updated the advice to say that you do not need to avoid getting pregnant if you are given the vaccine, but not to have it if you are already pregnant.

Eeeekim40thisyear · 16/01/2021 20:56

Thanks both, that's reassuring. I can carry on with my ttc plans then. That's good to know Smile
