Fertility to help for DC2

Hi everyone.

I have a 3yr old boy who turned up as a happy surprise and my husband and I are now trying to conceive again. Unfortunately it has been 18 months now and nothing. I have PCOS (diagnosed around 8yrs ago) and very irregular periods, I'm not sure if I'm just not ovulating. I've spoken to my doctor and she said that because I have a child already, I don't qualify for any help on the NHS. I was so disappointed to hear this as I didn't know it was the case. Has anyone else had fertility help for no2 or have they needed to go private? I think clomid or something similar might help me, not necessarily needing full IVF. Would love to hear from anyone else who has experienced similar!

Thanks.

Hi op, my periods were very irregular after finishing breastfeeding. I had three in 8 months but they were extremely light so I don't think I was actually ovulating. Dr tested me for PCOS however testosterone came back low so that was ruled out. He couldn't see a reason for my absent periods but offered to try me on Metformin which is often given to ladies with PCOS to regulate their cycles. Within two weeks I had a period and four weeks after that I had a BFP without actively trying to conceive that month. I just had to pay the cost of the prescription and Dr knew it was purely to help me conceive. Good luck!

I'm afraid this is the case in nearly all trusts! You could have a fertility MOT done privately though?

First step should be to start tracking your BBT so that you can determine whether you're ovulating or not. Might be that you'd just need to go privately for a clomid subscription if you are not.
