TTC at 40 - advice please!

Hi everyone, I’d love some advice on next steps on my fertility journey. I am 40 and have been TTC for several months, by tracking ovulation. I have one child, 2.5 years (naturally conceived), and one previous MC. I am currently loosely following the advice in It Starts with the Egg by Rebecca Frett.
I wondered what else I could be doing, i.e. baby aspirin, progesterone, fertility testing / blood work, and what would my GP offer (versus going privately). Thanks very much.

The book you're reading is already a good start! I followed the advice in the 2nd Ed and am now 26 weeks with DC4 aged 42. For me, however, I don't think it was the supplements. Other times I fell pregnant first try (ages 32, 37 and 40) so when this waw taking a few months I had my bloods done. Amh 1 pmol. AFC scan 4. Low even for my age. However they were not concerned, as my TSH was borderline at 4. They immediately put me on levo. Once TSH stabilised around 1, I fell pregnant first try.

So, TSH an easy one to start with, as well as day 3 and 21 tests to see if you're actually ovulating. 8f you're using OPKs they don't actually tell you 8f you've ovulated.

Best of luck!

Hi @Livingmagicallyagain thank you so much for this information, it's really helpful! Can I ask, are you UK based? Did you get your bloods done at the GP or privately? Which would you say is the best route? Also, what is Levo? I am using OPKs and thought they were reliable, but I didn't know they don't actually tell you that you've ovulated! Thanks so much for this again.

Levo is standard thyroid medication. I was on 50mg, took very little to stabilise. Such as easy think to fix yet huge impact on conception.

OPKs tell you your body is gearing up to ovulate, very possible to have an annovulatory cycle even with positive OPKs. Is your cycle regular? Do you get fertile CM?

I am from the UK but live in ROI, very good medical system here. I went private for AMH and AFC, but GP monitors my thyroid. Very supportive.
